Tube coming from rear differential just dangling, not connected?

I noticed a rubber tube dangling from the rear of my jeep today, not connected to anything. On the my rear dana 30, this rubber hose was coming out of the axle tube on the passenger side just hanging. The other end was some kind of what plastic cap, kind of reminded me of a camelback water tube piece where you would be sucking the water from. I think I saw a spot where other similar looking hoses were coming from but it was dark out for me to try and find a spot to connect it.

I just got my jeep back from a shop and wondering if its coincidence? I will take pics tomorrow during the day.

I just found this pic that gives me a pretty good shot of the tube coming from the axle.. Looks like this tube goesup somewhere near the rear frame. Anyone gotta pic of where this connects to? Or does it just hang up top and not connect to anything and just came loose? Thanks again gbobva

I don't pretend to be authoritative on this, but I believe the Dana 30 is a front-only axle. You may be referring to a Dana 35 in the rear.

Regardless, that breather tube needs to be mounted up high for water fording. You do not want to be sucking water into your gear oil.
