Tuffy Security Tailgate Enclosure for JKU

Installed this over the weekend. I couldn't find any good pics of one of these installed in a JKU 4-door, so here you go. Installed quick and easy and I'm happy with the results. Now I can lockup my computer bag when I need to stop on the way home from work.

Northridge4x4 had the best price with free shipping. Shipped within 1-day and arrived fast.

That looks nice! Have you noticed any sound loss from sub?

I have been thinking about buying one of these for my wife's JKU. Is there a space between the back seat and the front of the Tuffy box? It is a little hard to tell from your pictures. I was hoping that it would enclose the complete storage area between the back door and the back seat.

I don't have one but there is no way that goes all the way to the seats. That would be nice though...like a sister cover deck box.

Thanks for the write up and the pictures. I have been thinking about one of these for a while but the pictures that were out there did not show it very well. Nice job!

He's got the short one. Mine goes all the way to the back of the rear seats:

Haven't noticed any sub-loss - in fact, sounds a bit "boomier" if that's the right term.

This is the short version -there is space between the rear seats and the "box" - the two panels use the tailgate as the third wall - the longer units by tuffy are available. I just wanted something I could get in and out quickly when I needed the full back available, but for daily driving, I can lockup more than just small stuff that goes in the console.

Check around and you'll see the bigger box - pics below from another member.

Does the full sized box open from the top? Or do you slide things in from the back?

Works fine with my trektop NX, though I do have the mopar tailgate bar/clips.

In fact, I got caught last week with only the bikini portion of the opt on last week in a freaking DOWNPOUR. I was in stop and go traffic in POURING rain for like 30 minutes, and there was only a tiny little bit of water underneath it when I got home. It makes the JK almost waterproof. Very happy with that.

The top comes off in like 2 minutes if you want, but it is far easier to slide things underneath it form the back.

I have the full enclosure on my JKU. Love it! Great security and I can take the cover off quickly if I have to carry something tall.

I have the short one, and like it too.

Regarding the sub, depending on the song - my jeep may rattle a bit, a tuffy tinny bang which the bass sounds, which I hate.

But being able to lock up my gym bag, tool bag, some chains and straps, etc. -- priceless. Very, very happy with it.

PS Just a suggestion regarding the rain -- you might want to check your jack and the well in there -- both of mine were filled to the top with water before I pulled the drain plugs.

i would love the to get the bigger one but im not ready to lose my back seat on my 2door and i have three tuffy products already.

plus i think pairing it with my duster would be cool. also like how it is removable. looks like it can be used with the hard top also

First thing I checked. Not a drop in there.

Update: I did notice the rattling that GonzoBobH mentioned last night as we were on the freeway with the music pounding. I'm going to try stuffing some foam around the inside and see if I can tighten it up a bit. Not a big deal, and I might not even have noticed it had I not been listening for it...I blame you for my misery, Bob. ;-)

short one on the way

Just ordered mine a few minutes ago. Can anyone tell me if the carpet needs to be cut or does it rest on top? How difficult was it to install?

This is for the full size one mentioned in my post above. I have no experience with the short one.

The enclosure (back and sides) sit a little off the floor. You won't have to remove carpet. I've even got my Q cargo liner under mine, as well as some bungees hooked to the tie-down points.

It wasn't difficult to install at all. That's my opinion. I've seen posts where people claimed otherwise, but I'm one of those geeks that solved the Rubik's Cube early on, and threw it away.

What is involved with installing it? What do you bolt it on to and is any drilling required?

No drilling. It's adjustable, so you basically put all the mounting pieces together, hand-tighten em in place, put the panels on and adjust, then bolt it down to the rails on your tub.

Kinda hard to explain, but it took me maybe 1/2 an hour, 45 minutes.

That's for the version in post #6 above, the full metal box. Tuffy makes several different versions.

Mine's also customized with some rubber diamond plate on the lid and 8 tie down anchors.

Op how much room is left between the upright back seat and the tuffy
That's where I put my dogs when the doors are off and would need about 2 feet
