Turn the key nothing happens ?!

Trying to start my JK this morning it turned a quarter of the way over then it stopped, at the second try nothing happens when turning the key.
All I hear is chiming inside ticking constantly under the hood and my position lights flickering all these are happening even with the key out. Very weird, what should I do ?
Thx.

Check the other key, make sure it doesnt work.
Check battery for the charge.
Check loose cables.

Sounds like a battery problem. If your lights are flickering, it probably has some charge but not much left.

The position lights are flickering, and its ticking under the hood like crazy even with the key out. Disconnected one of the battery cable to stop it. WTF?

Remember, when you open your doors, your interior lights and maybe some others will come on. It may be the battery making the ticking sound as it tries to operate. My next course of action would be to purchase a new battery and see if that solves the problem... but, I don't know if that is the best course of action.

do you have a volt meter or something to check charge on your battery? if so connect to battery, and have someone turn the key to on or try to turn it over.. sometimes with out it on it will read 12+V but when you turn it to on or try to turn it over it will drop to almost nothing when your battery is shot... also could just be a loose wire/cable that is just getting enough juice to do all of that

Most of the time that's the sign of a bad battery. Take it to a parts store and have them volt and load test it. I wouldn't jump it from another vehicle if you don't have to.

x2. just have em load test it.

Although, this is not a guarantee (electronics can be so finacky). I bought a battery for my previous car at Pep boys; it was going bad but I had to take it back and have them test it 3 TIMES before they agreed to swap it. Proof that it was the battery going bad and not a short? Once the new battery was in, the car never had any more troubles while I owned it (at least 2 years).

Yes it was a bad battery, it started no problem when I jumped it from another vehicle. Got a new battery now, and starts fine every time. It's a 2007 JK.
Interestingly the voltmeter indicated 12.4 V, yet all it said "click" when trying to start it.

If it is an automatic, try running the gear shift lever thru the gears and then try to start in Park or Neutral. Works EVERY time on my son's
2007 JKU. Of course, the POS mechanics at Olathe Jeep says nothing is wrong since it will eventually start.
