Took it in for my first oil change. I figure since its a new vehicle might as well let the dealer do the first one.

They immediately told me it would be about 2 weeks. :lmao:

This is mckevitt in berkeley, ca.

Went to the parts guy in the back bought a filter and some oil (i wanted the receipt for warranty) went home. Threw down some cardboard and 20 minutes including a quick inspection and it was done. Also used the pennzoil full synthetic. Easiest vehicle on earth to change the oil on.

Point being isnt that just crazy? They were jam packed with those lame fiat suv things. Like every single lift had a new fiat thing on it.

I feel like i should go to school and just start running their service department. :drinks:

By the way we have a funny looking oil pan. :)

Looks like you learned many valuable lessons in your quest.
I'm really protective of my motor and have seen too many oil breadcrumb trails from dealerships and quick change places. I do them all myself. Glad you did it yourself as in the almost 40 years of owning vehicles this is the easiest one to change oil on.

That being said I am glad to see synthetic (that's another story). One question, did you wait until you got the change oil message from the Jeep or are you going on mileage?
I'll give you the first one after 2 or 3 K but these new vehicles are really good in judging when the oil needs to be changed based on driving. It took a while for an old guy like me to admit it but unless you are running the desert you don't need "frequent" oil changes. Not looking for an argument at all, just my opinion and observation.
Glad it all worked well for you. Yes the oil pan is funny looking and kind of exposed, that's why I have the Rock Hard skid on it.
Happy Thanksgiving.

i have been highly disappointed in the service department of my Jeep dealer. Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram dealers needs to slim down what they offer i believe. This would speed things up quickly. My previous vehicle was a '13 fusion. I never made and appointment for oil changes or the like. Drove up when I had time and was out in an hour. Car was to low for me to do an oil change. I do my own on the Jeep though.

I let a couple of Houston area dealer change mine a few times. I double check the oil filter cap, and at every dealer, every time, they were Bubba-tight. They HAVE to know that could crack that housing.

Anyway, when I do it myself, I just barely get it snug. Doesn't leak, and is easy to remove. I don't trust dealers nowadays. The quality of the technicians has diminished quite a bit from what I see in my area.

I used my torque wrench and torqued it to what it said online. 18ft lbs i think. Mine was on megatight i put some grease in a dry spot on the housing to try and make t easier to remove. Might be silly.

I waited until the oil change light. Changing oils after break in seems silly nowadays. The filter will catch the particles, most of the surfaces are coated, plus its 6qts of oil for a little v6. My warranty is unaffected wether at 3000 early or the oil change light.

I wanted them to give a listen to my transmission because when hot in neutral with the clutch out it makes a rattling noise.

I might just change the trans fluid agter my trip to san diego.

I agree its silly for the dealer to do it when its this easy.

My dealer is does high volume and is open until midnight during the week. They opened an express lane service for quick work like oil changes. They claim that you should be in and out in about an hour. I guess I'll find out when I'm due for my 1st oil change.

I would tend to agree with you, but read thru this other (long) thread about the financial consequences when you make a little mistake which turns out to be when putting the new oil filter back on, receipt or no receipt.
