U-connect

Does anyone know if u-connect is worth getting? I don't really see a need for it other than a luxury. Like what all does it do?

I had it installed in my Liberty and loved it so moch I went back and had it put in my Wrangler. MD passed a law which requires you to use a hands free device. It will allow you to make calls by sayiing the persons name or by saying the phone number. It also allows you to use voice commands to operate the radio and cd player.

I like the idea of hands-free-especially in a manual. My current phone has a blue tooth device that I use but it would be really nice to have it work through the Jeep's audio system.

Not to hijack the OP's thread, but the head unit in mine has the Uconnect and Voice Command buttons but they are nonfunctional. Does anyone know if this is merely a software update that can be added in later or are there additional hardware components needed to make it functional?

You have to buy a module, $157 and have the ECU flashed $100. The dealer will install it for another $100.

If you add it aftermarket, will there be a wire showing or is it hidden?

See other post on this subject, most systems you only have to buy a 30 dollar mic from Mopar (look on eBay).

I love it mainly for two reasons, the obvious hands free calling, the second, entering a address for the GPS while driving. Another point is not missing a call. Phone in your pocket / coat just hit answer on the radio - no more fumbling around.

If you want install info email me. Don't pay $200 to the dealer.

Get it. You will not regret having it. If you get the connectivity group it also comes with the console mounted USB for iPods.

I put mine in, but it did not save any money. Could have asked dealer from the start. The speech recognition is not as good as in my wife's Lexus. I pretty much always dial on the phone because of it, so it's not entirely hands-free. The sound quality is good despite the wind and road noise in the jeep. I'm quite amazed at that. The microphone is located on the plastic corner panel on top of A-pillar.

love the U-Connect in my wife's jeep. like others mentioned the voice recognition isn't as good as the one in my lexus but even that one can be a bit "iffy".

the garmin nav system blows away the crappy one in my lexus.

i have no probs with my droid 2 global and my wife has no probs with her iphone 4. the main thing she doen't like is that when she tries to play music it plays in "fast forward".....the music is kind of sped up a wee bit.

Love mine. I travel quite a bit so the hands free is a big bonus, especially, as someone else stated, in a manual. Hubby took the Jeep today as we have quite a bit of snow predicted so we linked his phone just before he left. First time he used it and he's sold. As Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory) says "Everything's better with bluetooth"
I didn't know I could enter addressess into the GPS with it, looking forward to figuring that part out.

look into getting a lockpick for your jeep. i have one in my lexus gx 470 and in the wife's jeep. they're pricey but worth it.

Mine came with the UConnect, but I didn't specifically want it. Am I glad it has it! I wouldn't want it without it. I have a Droid 2 and use it for all of my calls and text messaging. And I use the USB port to stick in a thumb drive with my music choices and audiobooks.

IT is definately worth having.....^ Some of my numbers transferred over from my phone as well but I couldnt access them verbally. I have found that you have to add them through the uconnect manually to be able to use them verbally. You can also work with your uconnect to get it to better recognize your voice. Its a really nice system to have.

Entering a GPS while driving? The 2011's Nav doesn't allow voice GPS commands. Mine doesn't. Am I missing something?
