U-Connect on Jeeps....

After buying my jeep thinking the U-connect button actually worked. Someone told me that it doesnt work on jeeps, im thinking someone from the dealership. When you press the button the radio says "not u-connect equipped". This would be a pretty cool feature to use, any idea on how I can make this work if possible?

Edmo,

What does lockpick.com call this part? I'm having trouble locating it. In addition to handsfree calling, does the $15 part allow Ipod integration?

Thanks!

I found it through a google search - I'm pretty sure this is what everyone is talking about. It looks like a pretty cool product, I'm trying to find out more info as well:

If you have a MYGIG radio you can buy just a mic thru MOPAR. Have done several already!

MyGig Lockpick and Uconnect

I installed the MyGig Lockpick and UConnect microphone from Mopar and they work like a charm. The movies and nav system inputs work while moving and the handsfree works with both the Uconnect system and the voice control for the radio and nav system. It takes about 30 minutes to install. I also got the aux input/output cable from Coastaltech in case I wanted to add the actual Ipod connection, additional screen in the back, back up camera, etc. I probably won't ever do it but it is available. You can press a certain sequence of buttons and it hides the video button so others don't know that it actually works.

ekpowell: I've been tracking this thread for a while and am very interested in these items, but it seems like there is a lot of confusion over where specifically to find these two items. Can you please let us know exactly where you got them from and which particular product/item to look for once we find the website?

Also, can you tell yet if it messes with the functionality of any other features, etc. on MyGIG?

Thanks!

MyGig and Uconnect Info

Here is the site to the Coastaletech for the MyGig lockpick. This site explains all the features that it has and what it unlocks and does and doesn't do. You can look at the install/user manual and there are several videos showing the features as well as the installation.

http://www.coastaletech.com/MYGIG.htm

Also on their site you can get a mic for the UConnect

http://www.coastaletech.com/MYGIG_MICROPHONE.htm

I didn't really like their mic but when I bough my Jeep I had already negotiated with the Dealer to through in the MOPAR mic kit for the MyGig system. This Mic should work for any MyGig radio to enable UConnect even without the MyGig Lock pick. I liked this one better than the one from Coastaletech. I mounted it on the upper left corner of the face plate that surround the MyGig screen so that it is in line with the drivers mouth and voice.

Thanks for the response - that's very helpful!

So I was originally picturing a device or disk that would hook up to the system, change some code, and then you could remove the device/disk and be done with it. While I haven't had a chance to check out the install videos yet, the website makes it look like the lockpick device actually needs to stay permanently connected to the MyGig system. Is there any good place to hide the lockpick device, or is it sticking out on the dash somewhere with cables, etc.?

Thanks again.

You unplug the wiring harness from the back of the MyGig unit and plug it into the LockPick. You then plug the harness from the lockpick into the receptacle on the back of the MyGig. It is all hidden behind the unit in the dash. No one would ever know it is there.

You just need the mic and press keys on your unit to enter the engineering menu in your mygig unit and enable the mic and you are away and running... cost is about $50 for the mic from mopar and thats ALL you need. Do a google search for your model and engineering menu keys to press...

i still have yet to install the backup cam in my wife's jeep. can't find a good spot to mount it. i may have to make something to mount it inside the rim of the tire on the back of the jeep. i just need to find a good way of doing it. i don't want to mount it to the license plate because a) it'll look silly plus it'll be a bit to the left and b) it'll be a little too exposed. does anyone have any suggestions?

I saw a post where the guy used the bottom of a bucket as a place to attach the camera and put it in the center of the spare wheel, he did a write up and posted it on the forum. It was only a couple weeks ago, search for it, it came out pretty nicely.

I got the uconnect kit and it works well. The only prob I have is that the wire for the mic snaked through the windshield moulding peeks out at the passenger corner. Not sure what it takes to get it in there to stay - a couple of hard bumps and it shows itself again. But the uconnect phone button on the radio works just fine...

i decided to install it yesterday at 9 pm. i did it by using the screws for the license plate but i'm not too keen on having it off to the side where the rear plate is. i just may have to search it out. i also have to figure out why the image is mirrored. i wish i knew where the install guide that came with the camera is. i'm afraid my cleaning lady may have tossed it or worse....my kids got a hold of it!!!

i just found the thread and posted in it. i showed the pics to my wife and she stated that she'd rather not have the JEEP hub(?)....the little logo in the center of the rim removed. i may just used that idea but raise it so the cam will be facing out from between the two spokes towards the top of the rim and have the cam angled down.
