Uconnect is crap

I hate the uconnect on my Jeep. I want my money back and to replace it with aftermarket Bluetooth! I have to turn off my phones Bluetooth just to use the phone. and turn it back on to make a hands free call and then turn it off right after I get off the call.

Is anyone satisfied with uconnect?

Yes, I am very satisfied with UConnect.

I use it almost everyday making or receiving calls.

I don't have to do anything but push the UConnect button and works well even with the windows down.

I can still make a call by dialing the phone and use UConnect, but why?

I have a Droid Max maybe that is the difference?

Maybe its my phone, but I get no other audio on my phone when connected so I miss all my text messages and emails. I can't use audio on the navigation on the phone because uconnect misses every command and all I hear is "call has ended" over the speakers. I cant text over uconnect and when connected it won't let me use voice to text to type one either, actually I have to disconnect from BT to do any voice to the phone.

You re right, for hands free talking it is great. I am very pleased how easily it picks my voice up and how well I can hear who ever is on the other end.

BT music streaming is a joke too. I works ok sometimes but I have to turn it on after being in my car for a few minutes and it constantly disconnects and skips.

This may sound rude but it's not meant to be. I really don't think that you understand the system or the limitations of your phone.

1) The phone is making a simulated call to Uconnect for the directions to come over the radio, however the directions are actually already called out before the call is active.
2) Most phones work best for this type of navigation when you are streaming audio.
3) The phone does not support the full MAP (Message Access Profile) that is needed for sending text messages thru Uconnect.
4) When the phone is connected to a BT signal then it is wanting the speech to text to be dominate over the Uconnect mic and commands however Uconnect does not support Voice recognition activation. This because you are in a hands free environment, once you start trying to listen to long emails, text messages and trying to reply back as if you were using your thumbs, then your attention would no longer be on traffic making it unsafe.
5) On phones that do support the MAP profile properly, then Uconnect will receive a notification of an incoming text messages, Uconnect will also read them too you and you can send short text messages that are from the generic 20 messages that Uconnect offers you.
6) You may not know this but the A2DP profile is the last profile to go thru the handshake and bonding process so depending on how many contacts and numbers for each contact you have on the phone as well as how quickly the phone sends the information to Uconnect when it's requested will determine how quickly you'll be able to stream audio.
7) In the case of the streaming audio skipping, this is because the phone is dropping audio packets during transmission to Uconnect. This is because the phones clock speed is faster than Uconnect's speed which is in line with so many other phones. So there will be a packet dropped thus causing the "skip". Uconnect won't make the clock speed faster because it will then cause an issue with all the other phones that currently work with it.

There is a guy, xsdbs, who posts here. He's a cell phone/Uconnect master. He's posted in a bunch of threads. You might want to post what kind of phone, OS version number and radio in your jeep so he can make suggestions if/when he sees this. You could also try to hunt down some of the other threads he's posted in.

Reasonably good, IMO ....

I have the 730n stereo with uConnect built into it. My iPhone 5s was a little bit "odd" to pair up with it initially, as I recall.

Only confusion there was entering that 4 digit pairing code. I'm used to one showing up on the device once it sees your phone and you tell it to pair it up. Then you enter that code on your phone and pairing is complete.

With the uConnect 730n stereo, I think it worked a bit "backwards"? I think the stereo wanted me to punch in my choice of 4 digits to *become* the pairing code but before I realized that, I kept sitting at a "Connecting ..." screen and wondering why the process was stuck. (It was something like that... I forget exactly now.)

But otherwise - it works ok for me. Not sure how well callers here me speaking on the hands-free bluetooth, thanks to the high level of road noise with the Jeep? But didn't have issues I thought were due to the uConnect system malfunctioning.

i have iphone 5 (and hopefully tomorrow I will wake up in time to preorder the 6), I have no problem with UConnect both making/receiving calls or streaming music. Spotify works well and I can switch songs on playlists. It sounds like a phone issue more than a UConnect issue. Again, I could be wrong ;)

I have a bluetooth headset also, and I have noticed that Uconnect to my iPhone 5 calls tend to be noisy when the bluetooth headset is also turned on. Just turning the other headset off seems to improve the call. Coming home tonight, the guy call me asked if I was on the roof of a high-rise. Switched off the BT headset and it cleared. Will try it again, hope it helps.

I believe my uconnect is working good the only time I have trouble with it is to bluetooth directions from Google Maps. I don't know why but it chops it up to hell and I can't understand what it's saying but overall I'm happy with it for now. I have a Samsung galaxy s4 and I also have my girlfriends iPhone synced to it without any problems.

Eventually I'll be upgrading it to an after market on most likely a Kenwood

I have the S4 and the uconnect works fine for calls, texts and music. If you have an apple product that's probably your biggest problem :D

I think a lot of y'all are missing his issue: no audible notifications while connected (texts/emails), won't read texts over the speakers, can't reply to texts via voice commands. He already said calls work fine.

I have a '14 and iPhone 5 (6 in a week!), and I have the exact same issues. When I tried to have it read texts to me I think it said my phone doesn't support that feature. I highly doubt this is accurate (I had a BMW 535i that did all of this with the same phone), but that (or something similar) is what it said. One would think that given the ubiquity of the iPhone Uconnect would be optimized to work well with it, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

I had a 5 page thread on this. Bottom line:
Samsung phone + Verizon or Spring do not mate well with uconnect. apparently a fix is in beta test now.

There is a fix that Samsung came up with and gave to Sprint and Verizon. The fix took care of the "call completed" issue as well as several other issues that Samsung was having with other vehicle, ear buds & BT speaker systems. Now it's up to Sprint & Verizon to release. On the other hand, because Samsung was dragging their tail a bit, one of the Uconnect suppliers (They support the RES,REQ,RBZ & RHB radios only) also stepped up and made a fix for this issue. These phones were working fine until Samsung released the JB & KK updates. Also need to mention that other phones with these same Android versions and on Sprint and Verizon worked fine. Chrysler is validating that SW update and will be releasing it to the dealers as a TSB soon.

You need to add some more information in order to get proper help:
1) What phone do you have (I'm guessing an IPhone)?
2) What network are you on?
3) What radio do you have?
4) I'm not really sure what you are trying to say about using your phone and having to turn the BT off and then back on. What is it that you're actually trying to do here? Have a private call?

Making a phone call or receiving a phone call is usually a wonderful thing I can't really complain about that at all. Problem comes doing anything else that involves listening or speaking to the phone. I can't use voice to text to send a text message or do a search or talk to my buddy Cortana :) have to type it or turn off the BT to speak commands to the phone. I have to turn off my Voice on my navigation and or the BT or I just get a bunch of hacked up directions and the notification my call has ended. Then of course I get no audio out of the phone except for the voice calls and hacked up navigation.

I have never been able to send text messages from voice commands but previously if I have received a text message it would give me the option to read it or ignore it and then if I read it I could dictate a response back (sometimes fairly long) and it would send that text message back to the person and I would not have to look at my phone or take my eyes off the road. Those voice command text message conversations were great!! I really miss them and don't understand why they don't work anymore. I have completely deleted the connections from both the radio and phone and reconnected 2 or 3 times, and I can't get it to work again or even notify me that a text has come in.

The OP mentioned his(?) problem is with hearing various notification sounds not related to phone calls. I've experienced this behavior as well with my Nexus 5 and 2014 JK, and I've confirmed that my Uconnect software is up to date. But let me define the specific behavior:

I do not hear any sounds from my phone through my speakers except for incoming phone calls unless I am in bluetooth mode. The bluetooth profile Android uses seems to treat all sound the same way as, say, music. With the head unit in bluetooth mode, I'm able to hear these notifications through my speakers. I've also experienced the choppy or missed speech from turn-by-turn directions that was mentioned in this thread. This happens when in bluetooth mode and when not playing music. The reason, as far as I can tell, is that Android disconnects the audio feed any time sound stops, so when maps needs to tell you something the phone must first reconnect to Uconnect. If you're playing music, the audio feed will remain open and the directions will come through normally and unbroken.

It's not ideal, don't get me wrong, but these are my observations so far and hopefully they'll help someone somewhere.

I'm having the exact same issue. I just bought a 15 Rubicon X, and I'm trying to connect a Galaxy S5 with Android 4.4.4. OB calls connect, then end, while the call still continues on the phone itself. Haven't had it long enough to attempt to connect music or stream anything from the phone. Wife connects with iPhone 4 just fine. The galaxy connects to 2 different Hyundai's (09 Genesis and a 13 Sonata) without issues. Mind boggling.
