Uconnect texting?

Does the Jeep Uconnect allow for voice texting of any kind?

I know my wife's car will actually read the incoming text out loud to you. The Jeep just seems to say "text message successful" but I can't figure out a way to get it to read it?

Would love to be able to send and receive texts hands-free especially since normal texting while driving is illegal and very dangerous.

Same question.
Inquiring minds what to know.

My 430 wont SMS through my iPhone.

Brilliant not to support the device with the exponentially largest market share.

Kinda like making square wheels.

Strange. Mine is Verizon also.

The only thing I get is the notification of a sent text. I don't get anything at all for incoming text messages.

My wife's phone is also Verizon and her vehicle will read the text messages outloud. The Jeep should at least be able to notify you when a text is received then give the option of reading it out loud. I bet there is a wayl...

Show me anything that supports everything?

It's easy enough to say the words. -Implementation is what kills ya.

EDIT

I recall seeing something in the manual about it but I don't have the manual here to reference at the moment.

Mine is T-Mobile, the Jeep will read text and send texts, although I haven't tried to send one. Some text it reads the text perfectly, some it says "text from no number available" pause "cologne", no matter what the text says...strange.

If you;re gonna say it...do it.

Otherwise you might as well advertise that you support SMS messaging via carrier pidgeon.

Did you have to set that up in some way or does it do it automatically? Just trying to figure out if there is "something I have to do" to get it to work. It syncs up fine with my phone, calls in and out work perfectly, voice commands for calls via the contact list works pretty well. It's just teh texts that I'm getting nowhere with. If it truly is just a Verizon thing that really sucks

All I did was set up voice which really has nothing to do with texting except for sending, it just worked that way from the start.

I haven't tried to send one yet either but my Jeep surprised me and read one to me from my wife, as it came in, on the way home from picking it up for the first time at the dealer. I LOL'ed.

I have Verizon and a Droid X.

I have a Verizon Blackberry Bold touch and it works well, though like above, I have not tried to send a text through voice yet.

Don't see a texting option, but haven't tried.

That being said, if you have a problem with the software - write a petition. I have been tempted to write an email to the CEO of Chrysler to "open source" the software. It would get more people looking at and improving it as well as adding features, faster. Anyhow, I'll stop before I go on a rant.

It doesn't work with my Verizon Razr either. It is telling me the phone itself doesn't allow it...which I find very hard to believe.

I have a Droid 2 with Verizon and i use this often. Although it works fine, the messages are sometimes difficult to understand when read by the UConnect. If yours isn't working, first make sure you have the devices paired correctly via Bluetooth. Can you use voice prompting to make/receive calls OK? Then you need to push phone button to access "setup". There is an option in there to turn the voice notification of incoming text messages on/off. Once you have it turned on, it will prompt you when receiving an incoming message to "push UConnect phone button to read incoming message".

Once again, you people would be amazed what you can learn by actually reading your Owner's manual.

The carrier shouldn't matter, it's all about the hardware you're using. The Jeep is doing everything via your phone. Now if I can just get my 2001 TJ traded for a JKU...

Carriers have been known to futz around with things sometimes.

I'll give it a try with my Droid Bionic (Verizon)

My Razr doesn't work either. Why does the Razr Maxx work but not the Razr?

This is not a true statement, it will work with any network that has phones that support the Bluetooth profile MAP (message access profile) the problem is that some of the phones that do support it, have issues with the way they are doing it. There are issues with Engineers not following the BT specs because BT is not tightly regulated and so there will always be issues. Uconnect is written according to the BTSIG compliance.

Well maybe the statement here should be something like:
"the device with the exponentially largest market share, should support the needed Bluetooth profiles that would let it work with the SUPPORTED features that are offered by the automotive vehicle manufacturers. If you have looked, you will find that APPLE does not support the BT profile MAP (message access profile) which is needed to text using BT. So yeah, APPLE is making square wheels.

Perhaps the RANT should be directed toward APPLE and not Chrysler. The supported feature of texting using BT takes certain profiles to be supported by the phone, which in this case it is not.
SMS texting using BT is a supported feature that works well with the phones that support MAP correctly, in this case BlackBerry (iOS 6.0 & 7) work, Samsung Focus S works, Nokia N8 work and a few others that are still being tested.
Motorola's newest that are supposed to support MAP (RAZR, Droid X, Droid 3&4, Bionic) all don't (they all use the same BT stack). You can receive a message and Uconnect can read it but when you send a message, you'll get a "sending of text message failed".

In order for something to work, it needs to work on both sides. You can just assume that because you have an APPLE product that you have the worlds best device. Heck, SIRI has a hard time making a complete sentence, no matter what they show Samuel Jackson doing on TV.

It's not the network that supports the feature, it's the phone. Verizon has BB phones that work well with texting using BT. The Androids are still trying to work it out and APPLE will not work with it at all, as the choose not to support the needed BT profile for it.
