Under powered 2007 JKU

I bought my 07 JKU Rubicon new. From day 1 it has been a dog on the freeway. Slows on the slightest grade, downshifts from over drive if you try to hold your speed. I have always assumed it was just a characteristic of the vehicle. Recently I have compared notes with a couple of fellow 2007 JKU owners and they have no complaints, even when fully loaded. One of them has upgraded to 35" tires, mine could not drive larger tires without regearing. Where should I start looking?

Agreed!

Also, it sounds like you have the 42RLE automatic transmission. That thing is worthless scrap. I do not have anything good to say about it.

Well just try to get as much info' as you can. They are all a little different, mine was the same when I got it, so I re-geared & got a Superchip.I have 35's & it's better but still- it is what it is so don't expect any huge changes

Get one with a man's, I mean manual tranmission. The biggest issue with the 3.8 is the weak 4 speed slush box.

I have an automatic jk rubi, with 33"S, but an A/T tire and the superchips on 93 octane setting. Big improvement on the highway and we have some decent grades not flat at all around here. Superchips inexpensive first item I would try. You have a bit more weight to pull though.

Heh Heh, I have a 5200 lb (normal) '08 JKUR/w 3.8L/42rle and 33.6" tires-

I have more than enough power, for a jeep/good mileage/power/throttle response/tow in O/D/ off-road climb trees/w trailer and

Your '07 is capable of the same almost, but

You gotta tweakit-for less tha $2500 bucks-

A new 2012, would be wonderful, it's your money, but remember-being a JEEP, you're always gonna find problems !

Amen. I find the "get a 2012 and it will all be better" thing a bit tiresome. I've driven Jeeps for over 33 years now, and there has always been some innovation in a newer year that improves upon the past. That doesn't make the older Jeeps obsolete. We Jeep owners always seem to have some dissatisfaction with exactly what we have. Thus the robust aftermarket economy.

I'm more than happy with my 2010 JKUR with 42rle. When I wanna little more "ooomph", I'll do a re-gear. If I were to push it up another notch, I'd supercharge it. Though, I'll probably just wait for a Hemi and/or diesel Wrangler. I wonder by then if I'll be telling all the pre-diesel folks they just need to get rid of their Pentastars and get a diesel?
