Underseat Security Box?

Has anyone mounted either the Tuffy Conceal Carry Underseat Security Drawer or the Bestop Underseat Storage Box in their 07 - 12 Wrangler -- under the driver's seat -- with heated leather seats? They are about the same dimensions. It looks like the heating element (or at least its mounting bracket) would be in the way. I'm guessing one would just take that bracket off and move it aside somewhere . . . so long as the electrical cord has enough slack? Maybe just do away with the whole bracket? I have a 2012 Wrangler . . .

I saw the small print in a catalog that said the Bestop was "not compatible with Jeep vehicles equipped with an underseat electrical box." However, I presume that refers to an inverter box, not this heating element?

Please let me know! Kent

I just got the Tuffy under seat one yesterday. The direction sheet has information on what to do about the wire harness. It seems simple, but once I install it this weekend I can give more information.

Both the Bestop and Tuffy boxes are extremely well made and very similar to each other.

Two BIG differences:

1. Cost - Bestop is about 1/2 the cost of the Tuffy.

2. Access - Tuffy opens about twice as far as Bestop giving FAR superior access to items in box.

Here are a few pictures to show the difference. Also take careful note of chopperbobby's photo of his fully open Tuffy.

Bestop:

I have the Bestop. If I were to do it again, I'd get the Tuffy!

Attaching some pics from my install. Non-heated seats. I moved the wiring to the console side. The Tuffy instructions tell you to move it to the door side. I found moving to the drivers side gave it a cleaner look

Does it have a good seal?? Would it leak if it were submerged in water/mud?

^ it's for when you are away from the jeep somewhere you can't have the gun, I.e. running, gym, your kids school, court, work(I can't carry at work) and you have the top and doors off the jeep. I know someone can break into the console, glove box quickly so that's where the underseat comes in to play

I have the Bestop and it's the only place I keep valuables, even when the top is up. It's a nice storage box.

+1, Post Office, kid's school. Sometimes you can't foresee every circumstance, hence the lockbox (and the CCW).

As for the OP, just remove the bracket on the '12. (I think that should be it, my seats aren't heated). Installed the Bestop in my '08 and '12. real easy.

I swear my seat handle (the one to slide it back and forth) sits a lot lower then the one in that picture. I was looking at it yesterday when I was installing my MORE dead pedal, I'll have to measure it. How tall are those lock boxes?

Regarding the comment on locked-up gun . . . didn't want to get into a huge gun discussion, but I've been carrying since 1983. However, even retired officers can't always carry into some places -- Soldier Field, National Archives (you get the idea). If I'm tailgating and go into a college football stadium and respect house rules (or even go skinny dipping in a lake), I want to lock it up with the top off the Jeep. I know you were being provocative (at least, I hope so), but . . . just sayin' . . .

Thanks everyone. Love guns, but I was just seeking info on the boxes and fit with electric heated seats. Nevertheless, the photos showing handguns gave me a nice scale graphic.
I also like the comments on the comparisons. I had noticed the Tuffy appeared to open further, so good to see the real photos. I also noted it had a little finger hook on the face of the drawer, so no need to keep pulling the key against the lock pins in the tumbler (I’ve seen what that can do to a lock over years of use). [Telling comments from Up Hill Bill on “If I were to do it again . . . “] Great pics sunnykk and, in fact, thanks to ALL who posted pix! I hope this helped someone besides me, too! Jeppie

Thanks Outlaw. I was hoping it was that simple. I guess I'll find out when mine comes in. Frankly, I won't be surprised to find out MY handle is lower than most or MY wire didn't leave enough slack. Seems like how things have occasionally gone with my Wrangler . . . but my wife says I'm negative at times! Great thread everyone!

I WAS debating between the two versions . . . I've been spending a lot of $$ lately and was wondering whether it was going to be worth the extra dough for the Tuffy (longer drawer pull, finger hook, overall quaility, etc.). Still debating but, as I said, those were telling comments by UpHill.
I assume no one's had a problem with the drawer flying open while driving, etc. I didn't see any negative comments on either product, really. As was alluded to by someone else, I doubt I'll have a firearm locked up WHILE driving, but one never knows (maybe I'll have one on and one off?). My thougths were mostly about securing items while OUT of the Jeep. Doesn't just have to be a gun, of course . . .

Because its necessary to carry a concealed weapon in places other than the ones you listed.

Worth mentioning, if you have a CCW and travel much, you ought to get one of these boxes. I travel through Illinois (the OP's state) and always make a fuel stop ahead of it's border to lock the unload CCW in the underseat box and store the clip and ammo in separate bags in the back of the jeep. As jeeps don't have trunks, and as states like Illinois have no CCW (or reciprocity) you don't want to give extra ammunition to it's law enforcement which is probably fine in about half the state. (God forbid you get pulled over in Chicago). A simple scan of the plate in many states tells them you have a CCW.

Be shure you don't have the "easy entry" flip seats, the box will not fit under it. I learned the hard way (dindn't read the fine print, oops). Returned the tuffy underseat box and got the tuffy security console insert instead.JK Security Console Insert for 2011 Jeep Wrangler, JK

Just got done putting the Bestop drawer in. WOW, were those seat bolts in there tight!!!! Other than that it was really easy. Seems really secure and tight as a glove.

Yeah they are TIGHT. The factory sheet says to torque them to 50 ft/lbs if I recall but they were on there at well over 100 from the factory when I tested them the first time.

I'd been considering the underseat box but assumed I have the flip seats. I have the 2012 2 dr jk. My seats slide forward then pivot up - I assume these are the easy entry flip seats??? If so, presumably all 2 dr JK's have the flip seats to allow entry to the rear seat?

Yes eeagle and the box won't work with your setup.
