Unlimited LWB ?

I've been looking at a couple of these , a 2005 and a 2006. I can't find any newer than that. Did they quit making them in 2006?

I could be mistaken but I believe when they went to the unlimited 4 door in 07 it replaced the LWB version.

That would be a TJ unlimited which is often referred to as a LJ. 2006 was the last year for the TJ/LJ. The JK began in 2007 and the unlimited version is a 4 door now.

Thanks for the quick replies. I guess if I want a LWB I'll have to stick with the 2006. The four door model is fugley.

The 2007 and up JK 2 door is very similar in size to the LJ.

Actually those look a lot nicer than the stock looking ones I have seen. The one with the slanted soft top looks cool. The Jeep I'm looking for is for my girlfriend and she doesn't want a hardtop and wants a top that is completely removable. So what I think or would be happy with doesn't enter into it. Thanks for the replies no offense meant on the four doors.

Ahh, that must be the satellite parking area? Looks like it'd be a long walk to get to JCPenney!

Just bustin' your stones a little bit. In truth, in my opinion the entry level stock 2007 forward Unlimiteds (4 door) suffer from the same problem the stock pre-2007 Unlimiteds (LWB 2 doors)--the tires look small for the body and they appear to sit too low. So with both the newer 4 doors and the older LWBs, a lift and some larger tires is key to balancing out the look. You'll note I didn't post any pics of stock entry level 4 door Wranglers in my prior reply.

In any event, the soft top on any TJ era Wrangler or the modern 2007 forward JK will be completely removable. And as Daggo mentioned, the 2007 forward 2 door is in fact actually about the same size as the pre-2007 "unlimited."

This may be the wrong place for this question but since I got this thread going I'll ask. Is there any pro's or con's with the 4.0 liter 6 cyl vs the 3.8 liter V6?

So, would you prefer the inline 6 to the V6?

The 4.0 would not be sufficient in a JK .
Worse JKU

So you are saying that the 12 extra hp in the V6 is the factor between the two. Or is the V6 a better engine than the inline 6?

I'm sure KJ will answer, but

It doesn't matter --there's NO WAY to re-use the 4.00 liter, unless

You don't want a JK/JKU and thats strictly up to you !!

The 2 engines are very similar in all aspects. The 4.0 is a 40 year old design and the 3.8 is a 20 year old design. Both have been replaced with the 3.6. If you want a pre-2007 model you get the 4.0 or the 2.5 4 cylinder. If you want 07-11 you get the 3.8. 2012+ comes with the 3.6.

Ok, thanks for the info. The last jeep I owned was a 1942 Ford Military and I'm way out of date on the new stuff. Thanks again.

I actually like the look of the 2 door unlimiteds. I was trying to find one cheap and do a brute mod on it. Never happened.

Mall? What, they hired you to put the fear of god into shoplifters?

Actually, now that I think about that statement, it makes sense.

I know where there is a cheap one right now. It just has a questionable history, like 4 reported accidents, being a rental and 84K miles. Looks nice though.

If you really like the LJ look, you can a JK-8 conversion and make it look like Warn's JK. They are basically running it without the goofy half-top and still have the rear seats, which I think looks awesome.

I just traded a 2005 TJ for a 2012 JK last night. I can tell you they are not cheap. I was very surprised at how much people were offering after checking with a few dealers and Carmax.

The difference is like night and day. The 2005 is bare bones, almost throwback to Jeeps of old. The 2012 is new and full of technology.
