I can tell you that when I have kids the 2d is gone and I'll look at a 4d. This weekend myself and three friends packed for a 2 day weekend in Montreal. It was cramped and having to constantly have people climbing in and out was horrible. I was kinda wishing I had a 4d. But I still love having a 2d.

I got a 16 year old son that is over 6' tall and I am always lugging lots of cargo to my place in the mountains. My Unlimited has done duty as a pick-up truck and I have done things with it that would be impossible with a 2 door.

In this pic I have a door in the frame sticking out of the rear that I was transporting from Lowe's. Back seats folded down.

Versatility is what you get with the 4 door.

I do not think the differences in gas mileage are significant at all.

The off-road capabilities are also totally similar: some things a short wheelbase is better, sometimes longer is better, but either will be great. By the time you get to the point where the small things matter that much, you'll be on your third Jeep and arguing with the boyz over at Pirate.

So it comes down to looks vs utility. And that's not something we can really help with that much. If you tossed a coin, would you secretly hope it comes up 2 or 4?

I went w/ the Unlimited and never looked back. I used to have a 2 door Hyundai Tiburon, which had a TINY back seat and not too much trunk space. I LOVE having the extra cargo space and the ability to carry people. All my friends used to whine when they had to get in the back seat of my Tiburon, but now they all want to ride in my Jeep. I went from never being the one driving on trips to the one that almost always drives on trips...a gift and a curse.

The one thing I miss about having a smaller car is the ability to park in smaller city spaces. The 2 door Jeeps are easier to park. Other than that, I am extremely happy with my unlimited.

Now I do recall parking my YJ into a spot where I had to crawl out the back to get out of the Jeep. That was cool.

We have two rapidly growing boys ( ages 12 and 8) and the 12 year old is already wearing 9 1/2 shoes. I originally test drove the 2 door but immediately realized that they wouldn't fit in it comfortably. Sooo, we went with the Unlimited two week ago. We absolutely love it. Plenty of room for everyone and all of the gear that comes along with kids. And my fiancée and I looking for excused to drive. I also love the look of the longer wheelbase. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

I had a TJ n weighed up the JKU. Stayed with the shorty cause only really me in it most the time. If I had a family to consider then would go JKU!
Not much difference in mileage..but since when has a Jeeper concerned themselves with this?
JKU just a capable as 2Dr if go higher to equal out ramp over angle as more prone to getting high-centered. While 4dr less maneuverable on tight tracks, they're more stable on the climbs which for me is a big tick.

I wouldn't have anything other than my JK Rubicon..at least until I've got some mini-Jeepers..then it's JKU Rubicon for me!

If I had the bank to add to my collection - I'd pick up a JKU Rubi in a heartbeat.
VERY capable rigs and the added wheelbase allows them to go places where my TJ simply cannot.
Well, I suppose it COULD, but no sense spending all of my time pulling cable

My wife wants an suv when we get back to the states. We have a YJ sitting in the garage. She really isn't too keen on the ride of Jeeps (bouncy, noisy, etc.). I'm trying to convince her that the newer 4 door model will be more comfortable and a smoother ride. From what I've heard on the boards they are. If I have to get a 4 door I'm going to try like heck to make it an Unlimted. Wish me luck!

Definately... I just swapped my '02 Silverado pickup for a new JKU. It rides SOOOOO much better than the truck. My wife LOVES it!

As for the 2D vs. 4D thing: for us, it was a matter of necessity. We have a 6-year-old daughter and a baby on the way... gotta have both a back seat AND lots of cargo space if I ever plan on taking the fam anywhere in the Jeep.

2 door! Unless the 4 door has a soft top with the slanted back in its ugly. It reminds me of a H3. Uhhh I just hate even saying that would. The only thing that a Hummer and a Jeep should have in common its that you can get a Hummer in your Jeep. Yes the 4 door has more but more room doesn't make up for the looks. Lol. I myself do do alot of camping, fishing, and hunting and putting all your crap in the back of a 2 door sucks. No room. But the have made a solution for that. Its a roof rack. That way you fan still carry all you stuff and still have the awesome look of a 2 door Jeep.

PS
Not all 4 door Jeeps look bad I just don't prefer them. Some of these guys on here have some sick looking rides. But atleast your getting a Jeep and not Hummer. Lol or you could get both! Wink wink.

I think the 4 door looks beautiful. I'm the type of person that will probably never take the top off anyway. I like the blacked out tinted out look. The 4 door is sexy as hell with some tint and big tires especially if it's black.

I like to have a lot of room for people and cargo, so a 2 door has never been for me. But now that there is a 4 door option, I'll be getting one really soon

I think you'd change your mind if you ride in a Jeep with no top or doors. Have you? If so, did you just not care for it? The top and doors off are the greatest thing ever. I always hate having to put everything back on not because its difficult, but because I won't have the open feeling until I open 'er back up!!

Honestly, I don't even like to have a sunroof open, lol I hate convertibles, too. I like to be sealed in and tinted out. My girlfriend says I'm a vampire, lol

Whatever I get will have to be a hardtop for sure.

Now I'm trying to decide if I want to go Sahara or Rubicon.

my 08 sahara jku rescue green, is parked every night next to daughters h3. why is it you say jku looks like h3, i don't see any resemblance. now put h3 and jeep commander next to each other and you might have to look twice. i also like the looks jku. drive from jersey to fla once or twice a year making 2 door impractical and jku handles much better than 2 door at 80to 85mph.

Is 4 door Rubicon 2011 really different to 2010?

Heard that major noise reductions in 2011 over previous models-true?

Personally I think a 2 door is more what a Jeep should look like and what maintains what a Jeep is. But saying that there is a lot of benefits to a 4 door with its larger wheel base and room for a family and would never say anything about the very capable Unlimited.

But I still love the original look of the 2 door and the ability to tell many I don't have room for them when they want to bum a ride. With the rear seat removed it has plenty of room. I hauled 30 2X4's the other day in it with no problem and last week hauled a 10X15 piece of carpet

Not true. I had a 2010 Rubi with leather, and have a 2011 Rubi with leather. The interior is MUCH better quality, but only a small amount quieter than prior models. I would not say there are "major" noise reductions, ... at least not in my opinion.

My jeep club has plenty of both and it comes down to the drivers skill in the end. Neither one has an edge off road.

Now, on the highway and around town, love the room of my JKU.

I'd be careful and take a very thorough look at that one. It only has 10k miles for a couple of possible reasons. It might have been the weekend mall crawler. Or, the most likely reason, that thing is a trail rig and has been wheeled hard. It looks nice and shiny but still. I'd be cautious on it. You don't want someone else's problem. With that being said, this could be an awesome LJ in tip top condition with zero problems. I'd check it out. It looks awesome.
