I was wondering how to unlock the maximum potential of the Pentastar engine? This platform has more ponies locked up and I thought it might be cool to have a thread that covered combinations of the options available to make it happen.

I'm thinking about variables such as aftermarket and/or existing mopar bolt ons on other Pentastar engines:

- programmer
- intake
- exhaust
- ported throttle body
- ported intake manifold
- turbos

Maybe internal engine components could be left out to keep it somewhat simple enough for a DIYer to complete the "build"?

Here's a link that I got from someone else on the forum (but I cannot remember which thread or which person).

Can someone knowledgeable in this arena chime in on what combo(s) would be the best bang for the buck?

Here's the link I meant to attach above, it has the ported throttle body, and the ported intake manifold:

http://www.modernmuscleperformance.c...gory_s/387.htm

Anybody who knows this kind of mod care to shed some light on these products? If you read the description it states that if you provide your intake manifold it's $310 instead of $590 if you just buy the ported intake manifold outright.

When I had my '97 Dodge Ram one of the popular mods was porting the throttle body. Check out The Fastman - Specializing in Mopar Performance Parts

Looks like he does 3.6s as well and much cheaper than that place.

Wasn't there some company going to bring out SC for 3.6?

Looks like some dremel time for me on that intake...
Since the modded TB still tapers to the stock 74mm, I might hold off until an aftermarket or Mopar performance comes out with a true 80 mm TB.

It doesn't say what the specs are in the modern muscle performance manifold or throttle body exit side are (says 80mm on the way in I'd guess). One would like to hope that it would be 80mm all the way through.

No headers...exhaust manifolds are cast as part if the block 3.6. Best you could do is a full cat back and aftermarket cats which I have not seen on the market to date.

This does not include a motor or labor.

Just keep in mind that these new engines are VERY new and at the upper end of the high tech engine spectrum. You're not likely to get bunches of HP from simple mods these days. If there is hidden horsepower then Chrysler has probably already found it.
Other than a super charger or turbo I think only the quieting pieces will grant you more power. Things like exhaust, which is giving littler and littler these days, and maybe a cold air intake.

It's not like you're working with an old '74 Olds 455 that just needs to be saved from crappy first gen smog equipment.

I have trouble even getting simple parts like filters for my '11 GC with the 3.6

I disagree because the ram and the charger get an extra 20 hp stock out of the same engine because chrysler uses a different intake manifold for them than the wrangler

Yeah but wasn't that just to put the power in the rpm range they wanted for the wrangler? Most of the time when you make additional power in one rpm range you're giving a little in another. Not always but usually

Yeah for that much I would just pay an extra $3000 to get a 6.4L Hemi engine/Labor.

Can you really get a 6.4 hemi for 3k installed + the cost of the 6k kit? I find that hard to believe for a crate motor.

I have no idea. Never priced one myself... Just trying to clear up what he stated.

Yeah I understood the 6k + 3k part. I've also never priced out a hemi but have priced out other crate motors and for 3k you were getting the bottom of the barrel basic motor.

Yeah I can't see labor AND all the other things that'll need to be addressed only being another 2K. Oh well I think went a little off topic on the OP. Oops

A Hemi conversion will cost closer to 15,000 overall

Actually even more than that...I checked. I was able to find a used (16,000 miles) 392 out of a Charger for about $7K, the basic kit of parts to install it was about $5K for a total of $12K. BUT the labor was HUGE as were all the other incidentals that add up. Best price I got from 3 places if I supplied the used motor I found added up to $19,842 including tax.

AEV does it with a new motor for about $24K depending on options you choose....

whew...
