Got the Jeep back today. Everything runs and sounds great.
Free rent car and detail afterward. All parts were available and took about a week.
Manufacture date 9/11 for any of you that are keeping up with it.

I called Chrysler first thing this morning, they were very helpful. Called me back again this afternoon and explained the service dept where my jeep is at is working the required tests/diagnostics w/ technicians from headquarters and believe it is a defective head. I was told I will receive a call tomorrow as to when it will be repaired. I guess I am making progress, heck its been in there now for 4 days.

Good to hear Chrysler was as helpful for you. They kicked my dealer in the butt. Post up when they tell you about the wear issue and how it may be a month before the head comes in.

Update - Whole new engine on order. They discussed replacing the heads but after noticing excessive metal particles in the heads they want to go ahead and just replace the engine. Not to sure how I feel about that, talked to a few people that said that is the best option but being an old school car guy the idea of my jeep not having the original engine bothers me. Might talk to the sales manager about buying it back and ordering a new one.

the original engine would probably be returned to Chrysler for tear down and evaluation

if mine has a problem, I would hope for a complete new engine

Very true. I also want to give my dealership credit, my JK hasn't thrown a code but they didn't even try to give me the "Sounds normal to us come back when it throws a code" speech. They fully admitted something wasn't right and have been working with Chrysler to remedy it.

Think of it as donating the organs to science, we will all benefit from what is learned in the lab.

If you tell me the C2 is a red split window with knock offs I could see how even a Wrangler might be checking it out every once in awhile. Woo Hoo

This guys tick?!?

I went to the dealer. "all normal" it's documented so no worries. When it breaks it'll be covered. The one downside to being an early adopter.

Its sounded like that since new.

I was called today by Chrysler first thing this morning.. by the case manager of my vehicle. "your service tech has been working w/ our "star service team to cont to diagnose" I should get a definite answer tomorrow. Heck...maybe I will get a new engine too. It has been in the shop now for 5 days! I was hoping to hear something today...but its always "tomorrow" I feel contacting Chrysler has made it speed up. They do call, and update with the vague info they provide, I do have a case # so...its moving along...just not as fast as Id hope. But...if it is repaired, and repaired correctly...I guess I cant complain. Just miss my Jeep!!

well I just got mine back after a week of being at the dealership. They apparently replaced all of the tappets (no idea what that is, I guess another term for lifter) on the left head. Looks like there are 12 of them in the head cause the invoice has a qty of 12. Service rep said on the phone when telling me to come pick it up that there was still some noise but it went away once warm.

So they pull the jeep up on the service drive and to me it sounds just like it did. (I will post the video I took when I got home today as soon as it is loaded up)

Service rep said that it doesnt seem right to him but that because of air in the lifter from being new it needs time for the air to be sucked out or something. Doesnt really sound right to me but what do I know.

Anyway, he said to call him tomorrow to let him know if it still doing it and we will go from there. Apparently they also cranked up a new COD/MW3 on the lot and it sounded the same. But that is not gonna stop me from taking this back again and now thinking I might call chrysler myself to get this done.

My impression from reading this and other threads is that the real solution is a new head, not just replacing valvetrain parts.

It doesn't sound as bad as mine does. It seems a little better, but it's still slightly there.

Can someone post audio of a properly operating one? I just went out and checked mine and I can't figure out if I'm hearing normal valvetrain and lifter noise or if I have the problem too. It sounds pretty similar......to me at least....to some of the other videos. I can't give you the build date code, but I can tell you since I ordered it that it was built the first week of January, i.e less than 2 months ago.

people have narrowed down the build dates for the ticking problem to a few months.......has anyone taken into account that those are the jeeps that have finally put the 1k to 2k miles on them needed to develope the failure, and that the jeeps built after december 11 just havent hit the mileage needed to develope the failure?? hopefully this isnt the case
