The same tech on another forum that identified that the seats and valve guides were changed on the AC head, also recently explained the purpose of the reflash. It was something like this: For example, before the reflash if your number 2 cylinder misfired 100 times, a check engine light would come on. After the reflash it takes 300 misfires to trigger the check engine light. Basically it make it less sensitive. He didn't know the reason behind this, and didn't think it was a good idea.

WTF...

My engine was build in 02/2012 and my Jeep was build in 04/2012. 10000 miles and still getting 17/18 mpg and runs like a champ.

Not sure what to do....
I left my jeep on for two hrs straight parked and the engine light came on try that.

I believe the last digit is ignored. Day 36 of year 2012 (0362) or 5 February.

Is it my imagination or are the complaints about ticking decreasing?

Yeah the last character may be some sort of hour or shift notation. Some have a letter in that spot which leads me to believe it is probably an hour notation.

Back to the dealership it goes

I just got my Jeep back last Tues after getting a new head but now it's been idling high, there's a sound like running water behind the dash on the passenger side, it's running a little hot and last but not least it's ticking again on the driver's side. The ticking sound isn't has loud as before and there has been no CEL. I drop it off in the morning for round 2

Sounds like cooling system has air pockets in the plumbing should be a quick fix.

When Jeep made the more robust AC head and from what I understand improved the valves do funnies, did they do the same thing to the passenger side for new production engines? Just asking.

I'd imagine so. The passenger side head is already revision AD.

well after running 3 tanks of chevron through the jeep, my idle is still bumpy. Gas doesn't seem to make a difference, in my case. I put it in 4-low, which raises the revs by 100-200 rpm and that hits the sweet spot. it's bumpy as hell there, feels like it's running on 5 and a half cylinders. i sat in the parking lot for 15 minutes waiting for a CEL or something to indicate misfire, but nothing.

anyone else have a rough idle in 4-low like i'm describing?

Maybe, or AD might just be the original right side head. I just don't know.

My Tickastar is much worse on the passenger side, so I may get to claim first on this one.

My Jeep goes in the 16th for comp/leakdown test. I bet both heads are coming off.

all first iteration parts on production jeeps start with AA. But you're right, the AD head could have come into play before it was introduced to the wrangler, like when the had early problems with grand caravans/cherokees.

If the right side heads are bad...that would really suck.

I have 5500 on my 2012 now, The tick has presented itself around 4,000. Its not bad, so I am going to wait it out for now. See what comes from all these revisions. I am hoping by the time I do need a head, They have all this krap straightened out.

I think the cooler weather could be the reason the complaints have declined. Somehow the underlying problem is related to the cooling system and the integrated exhaust manifold (IMO). I notice mine has almost stopped pinging when the weather turned cooler. The head failures might ramp up again next summer.

I've even thought about a low temperature thermostat but I'm afraid to touch anything while it's under warranty.

I'm getting a new water pump and they're going to make sure the system is throughly bled. Hopefully this will be the end of repairs. In a weeks time my Jeep has gotten a new head and now a new water pump

Could be... Mine was a FL jeep before it finally blew after I moved to MD during one really hot summer. CEL came on during a week of driving on the sugar sand of OBX.

Since the "cold" weather hit down here on the gulf coast my mileage has ticked up a hair but the ticking isn't any less pronounced.

I believe the defective heads had a machining error. Mine was ticking in the winter, until they replaced the head(driver side only) at 10K miles. -No issues since, now at 17K miles.
