I will say up front that I haven't read every post on this tread. I sometimes hear a ticking sound from my engine yet, I always chalked it up to that being the way the engine sounds. I am hoping that someone would be kind enough to fill me in on how to determine my build date and head type? I haven't tossed a CEL but, I have had a decent MPG drop. (May be winter blend but I'm not sold on that) I figure it is better to do the homework and have everything be fine that not.

So this looks like a build date of Feb 16. How does this relate the part numbers (AA, AB, AC, AD, etc)

Courtesy of Blastek:

Case Number: S1209000022
Release Date: 10/16/2012
Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Identifying Service Replacement Cylinder Heads
Diagnosis:
3.6L cylinders have been improved for durability by upgrading the valve seat and valve guide material. In order to verify that the latest upgrade is incorporated in to the cylinder head received from service parts verify the part number and Julian build date of the cylinder head
Part Number- RL141353AC or higher - left side head
Part Number -RL141352AD or higher– right side head
And a Julian build date of 2062 (206th of 2012) or higher .The build date is stamped on the outboard side of head at the center just below the rocker cover sealing rail

so it looks like AC heads came around the end of july

The sound I am concerned with is more in the background. I'll have to take her out, get good and warmed up and see if that makes a difference.

It could all be in my head... Maybe I'll just stop into the dealership and see what they say.

Can you get the camera in over the top of the tire and closer to the fender liner?

^^ that's pretty much what mine sounds like after the head replacement. The frequency of the ticking is too high, which points towards the normally noisy injectors.

I would go look at some youtube videos of ticking pentastars. Here's a definite ticker:

Update. Dealer replaced left head, last Aug at 14,000 mi., Code P0302, cyl #2 misfire. Now 24,000 mi. ticking again, so far no code. Head is now an AB so I'm thinking I'll be going back soon. If it does kick another code, I'm going to unload it. Never thought I would be watching so much TV at the dealership, coffee is horrible.

That sucks! I had a feeling eventually the some of the people with the AA and AB replacement heads would see them failing again at some point. Good luck to you!

I'm not obsessed.

She's got 13k and my mileage is dropping and the engine is getting louder (it may not be a tick but I think that is the loudest injector flutter ever). I already hear the marbles in my transmission but the dealership says all is well. She shakes like crazy between 70 and 80mph but Chrysler chose to ignore it though even the service manager noted the issue but "couldn't make any repairs w/o the OK from Chrysler." Obsessed... nope not me.

Truthfully, I'm not. I am pissed about the vibration thing. Strange that the service manager says there is a problem yet won't fix anything b/c of Chrysler not wanting to "spend $$ to rule something out". I prefer to avoid problems before they arise. I'll just wait for the CEL. Outside of that, I'll just keep on Jeepin' on.

On the edge of the head. See page 107 for a better description of the exact location.

You have an AB head, like my jeep. I dont have any issues at 9k miles. Wait and see if you get a CEL.

I guess I'm screwed... Just bought my 2012 4 weeks ago with only 115 mile on it from a dealer and its build date is 0312A....... should have kept my 93 wrangler with 193,000 on it and no engine work
