No official news from Chrysler. My attorney sent them a demand letter under the Lemon Law, and they have 30 days to respond. I don't know how to post the letter here or I would share it with you guys...but it basically says they should have replaced the vehicle last May when it was out of service for 19 days, because more than 15 days automatically qualifies it as a "Lemon".

I just received my copy in the mail yesterday, so I'm guessing they received theirs today. It will probably float around the building for the rest of the week and we will hear something next week .. maybe. I'll keep you guys posted though, and I'm grateful for the advice you all gave.

Interesting that they've stepped up to BOTH heads. Please keep us in the loop.

Thumbs down cylinder head info

Ya, I took mine in today. They told me it is on the 2012 jeeps, the chrysler? town and countries and another chrysler. So i think it is definately more than a few, but he definately said the dealership said they were definately fabricated wrong. Just an fyi!

Got up this morning, started her up, no more ticking, no more smell, I thought I was dreaming. Running so quiet, I got out to open the hood to see if it was running. Almost forgot, the Easter bunny came and took my 2012 away and gave me a new 2013. I knew if I kept that thing, it would be another cylinder head and probably a plugged converter, hopefully the new owner will not mind sitting in the customer service area at the dealer and drinking that horrible coffee. Chrysler, this is your last shot, you treated me like crap when I brought it in for something you knew was wrong. You didn't offer a courtesy vehicle and pretended like you weren't aware there was an issue.

CEL with cylinder 2 misfire came on at 13k+ miles 2 weeks before. Reset it and it came on again last wednesday. Took it to dealer, they did leak test and found 45% leakage. Got the left cylinder head replaced. Took them a day, seems they had the parts available.
The part no. is AC and the julian date stamp says 0413.

Sounds much better now..I even feel it runs noticeably different in 1st & 2nd gears. As in, previously I used to feel it has a hard time accelerating in first gear when I move from a dead stop..it always made me uncomfortable and I used to start in 2nd gear! Now I don't have that issue. Maybe its just a placebo effect..but thats what I feel.

It's nice to see Chrysler has learned its lesson on wasting money from the 2008 meltdown.

Oh, wait, nevermind.

Probably a result of the computer being reset during the repair (battery unplugged). The throttle is programmed to learn how you drive, so it may feel sluggish after driving economically for some time.

I was wondering if anyone had the issue of their engine smelling after accelerating fast or going past 4k rpms. Every time I accelerate fast the engine smells and realy gets annoying and even if the top is on and window are up you can still smell it. One of my friends was following me one time and said he could smell it and it didn't smell good

Yes, there have been a few posters. The head issue can affect all pentastars with a build date prior to august 2012.

Is it the engine, or the exhaust? Soft top? I have read that the way the air flows around the jeep can cause the exhaust fumes to swirl at the rear and re-enter the cabin.

It's a softop and it's either exhaust or engine can't realy tell thinking its like a metal to metal smell?

It might be the clutch. They're know to smell if you are feathering the clutch, especially in reverse.

yet another head replacement....

So last Thursday the CEL went on. Friday noon into dealer, pulled a 0304 code, misfire #4 with 45% leak down. Left it with them and picked it up Monday. New AC series left head installed and runs great.

This Rubi has 19k miles on it and never ticked and was getting 17.5 calculated mpg...... Pez

Update on my Pentatick issue (love that phrase). Yes it was the tick of doom, I just acted as if it was "normal" and eventually 2 lifters bend and the whole thing decided not to start. One week later and a drivers side head replaced and it sounds(ed) great. New issue, possibly related... now the engine has a vibration that at certain times is pretty loud, and other times, not noticeable at all. It is real, just not sure what it could be. Starting to feel like I need to be a pro mechanic to drive my 2012 Unlimited Sahara - 30K mi already. Hold the applause

I'm supposed to be getting mine replaced when I take it in next week. I don't think they're going to change the head. I don't know how to make them do it. I know know how to push them to change it and just solve the issue and be done with it.

people have had lifters replaced on the original head. This does not fix the issue.

I would be adamant that they change the head to the latest AC version. But, you have to let them learn the hard way. There are numerous documented cases that changing the lifters does not fix the issue. I don't know why Chrysler even authorizes repair on lifters? They know it doesn't work...

Yes, it is in the original AA head range. This does not guarantee that you'll have an issue (but IMHO, it is likely)

Head replacement Monday the 8th, CEL now off and ECO light back now for 2 weeks??? Has always run like a top, no noise at all no rough running only when CEL, ECO light trouble then only a "stumble" once in a great while, never any "noise" Quiest engine of any Jeeps I've had?? Sure hope it's as good after the head is replaced!! The dealer volunteered the head replacement cuz the computer told them it was needed when I brought it in the first time the CEL went on...their choice, no fight? 16K miles built Jan 2012...

Sure hope they use the "right" new head, not some left over thingy. Taken 2 weeks to get the new (I hope) model head in so they must be doing a bunch of these things?

Hoping it'll be as good "after" it's "Fixed" as it is right now!!

They replaced the lifters on mine...that did not quieten it...then they kept it and replaced the head...then it was so quiet they said "hey the water pump is makeing a noise". so they replaced that too.

I have been reading this thread with a great deal of interest. I purchased a 2013 JK Sahara that went to "E" status on October 18th, 2012 and was delivered on November 1st, 2012. My question is: Is anyone seeing this issue on the 2013's? I don't drive mine a great deal (2500 Miles to date) and it seems that the problem is popping up later on. Anyway would appreciate any input as to this seems to be a 2012 MY problem or if it has spread to the 2013's.

Thanks everyone.
