Yeah, that is what I am kinda figuring. Now that my CEL is off, the code is likely cleared right and the dealership will basically say it is "fine" unless it happens again.

The code stays in memory for quite a while. That stops people from clearing codes like EVAP emissions codes before going for a state inspection. Just because the light went out doesn't mean the code is not in memory. It might be, and it might not be. You can have a local parts store like Advance Auto parts or Auto Zone plug it in and check it for free. They'll tell you if a code is in memory or not.

Hum, ok, maybe I will take it by my local AutoZone and see if they can do that for me. I just hate wasting time with dealerships and don't want to get the run around on this thing. Why waste my time and their time. I would rather go in with the CEL light on and the head clattering away so they will be forced to really look at the thing rather than just "update the computer" (i.e., clear the code) and send me on my way for who knows how much longer till it all happens again.

Either way, I am not going to take it into my dealership yet, I got new parts coming in on Thursday for my Jeep and need to change those out first before going in to the dealership. (Swapping out exhausts and got to get the one that is currently on my Jeep off and boxed up to sent out to DynoMax)

I'd go to Auto Zone and have them plug it in. You can also buy a cheap code reader. There is also away to retrieve codes by clicking the key on and off, w/o starting the engine. I forgot the procedure, I think it 3x, but it will only show the code when the CEL is on, it won't show codes in memory.

Yeah it is have Trip B displayed then on/off- on/off- on with the key and then the code shows. That is how I knew it was a code for a cylinder #2 misfire. But I can't get that to show now that the CEL is off. Of course now I am getting a "oil change needed" flashing every time I turn the Jeep on instead. I just had it changed a couple thousand miles ago so I know it is not quite due yet, but guess I will get that done since I have never gotten that message displayed before.

^The Key trick will only show codes when the CEL is lit. A code reader will show codes stored in memory. If there are no codes in memory then the computer sees no problems at the present time. If that's the case the dealer can't do anything for you.^

Well, after driving around some more today I now have the CEL on again with the same code for cylinder #2. Plan to take it in next week to dealership. Will see how she does until then.

You'll have closure now. Good luck I'm sure you'll be just fine after the fix.

I hope so. I am hoping to just get it taken care of. Don't want to get the run around that some guys on here got and have this thing dragged out for weeks. Will post results.

We just bought a new 2013 on Monday. The pass side head is dated 2012B, the drivers side head is dated 2022A. Do I have the problem prone head on the drivers side? The jeep is a very early build, July 27 2012.

The head replacement paperwork said they purged the coolant during testing and refilled and purged the air however apparently there was still air pockets that used up all remaining coolant...odd. I went back to work and let my coworker know the results. He went out to his jk which got a head replacement about 3 weeks ago and found his had almost no coolant either...now mind you we each went to a different dealer for warranty repair work on the heads...my mind is boggled, good thing we caught this. Not sure if its a common issue or we're just 2 unlucky fools haha. However I was pleased how fast the dealer was today with testing and fixing the issue, all for free.

Paperwork says it was done but who knows.
I had the same problem after the drivers side head was replaced... The tech kept saying they had properly filled out and purged the radiator, up to this day I can hear the water moving around under the dash from air pockets.
I had a bad experience with the techs being sloppy they forgot to put some bolts and left all the wire harness all over the place. I had to go back and forth several times just to get a half ass job.

This quote from the article which was dated 8/13/2012, so then the new "more robust" heads should have started being installed around 7/01/2012.

Only 7,500 engines at 500 per week? Yeah, like that is remotely believable. Chrysler should ease up on the "innovations" a bit, and stick to the tried and true engine designs.

Well poop... I just crawled under my jeep and noticed I'm dripping oil from somewhere on the passengers side. I'm not sure how that is even possible since the divers side was replaced? Anyone else have this happen after their repair?

Sorry, nope. I haven't had any issue with that problem since I got mine replaced about 16,000 miles ago. Sorry to hear you are having trouble. Keep your head up, Chrysler will come through.

I had that issue but I was on the side they replaced. They had to go back and replace the gasket since it was bad. I have no idea why the passenger side would leak unless they loosened the bolts.

It looks like some of the seals on the front are the ones leaking. I'm sure it'll get fixed... This will be repair number 3 that was a result of the head being replaced. Hopefully the last.

Well so far my refill seems to be okay so here's to hoping.

It could be the intake manifold gasket at the back end or the oil pressure sending unit that's leaking.

Lucky me. I'm going to read it before I take it in. Could be lots of stuff though but I've noticed a slightly rougher then normal hiccup at idle every once in a while since I went over a long steep grade in 100* heat last week...... we'll see.

Just looked around more. It's on both sides, but the passengers is making it to the garage floor. Drives is getting soaked up by the frame. It looks like the cover on the front has some gasket and isn't sealed well. I assume that's for the timing chains? Either way it's back to the shop.... Again... 3rd times the charm!

We traded our first 2012 in for a late built 2013, and have ordered a 2014 to trade in our second 2012! Not worth all the BS.

Thanks! My CEL is still on, after a head replacement and numerous other 'fixes'. I was just curious what the status is on repairs, since I've been dealing with this off and on since last May.

I got a left head replacement model AC, I have spots in the driveway. Last oil change my guy said the engine had oil.

All brand new gaskets failing. Lovely.

Is anyone noticing the AA heads failing after a good amount of miles? I have about 25k miles on my Dec '11 build JK. No ticking or anything besides the initial 2-3 seconds at cold start.

I'd hate to hit 40k miles and head give out.
