I'm not here that long, but I doubt they are telling the truth. Unless they sell very few vehicles.

From Pentastars.com

In June 2012, dealers reported that some engines had premature cylinder head failures, usually on cylinder 2. The problem seems rare considering the number of these engines produced, and nobody was stranded by the problem, which made itself known through the “check engine” light. Customers were generally given loaner cars while the issue was being resolved, though in some cases there was a considerable delay as Chrysler engineers sought root causes (which include “bad gas”) and an effective cure. A fix (hardened valve guides and seats) was engineered and entered production in June, and by mid-July, the backlog of replacement heads was being addressed, and all new heads were of the new design.
Most vehicles with this problem appear to be Jeep Wranglers, and a service bulletin was issued for Wranglers built before January 24, 2012 (MDH 0124XX) seems to be designed to prevent “false positive” check-engine lights.
Any model year 2013 and newer car or Jeep or truck should have the new heads. A “Julian” build date of 2062 (the 206th day of 2012) stamped on the cylinder head shows that it is one of the newer types. The part numbers of the new heads are RL141353AC or higher (left side) and RL141352AD (right side).

Ours is an early build 2012 (took delivery 8/2011) and we have not had any issues, even after 20K supercharged miles.

Hey, good idea! I love the color of your JKU, obviously...

But, I doubt you could adjust to driving my Rubi, with stock suspension, gears, etc., after looking at your mods. Dang, you're a serious Jeeper!

Just got the call. Miss fires resulting in the need to replace cylinder head. 27k miles.

When I told the guy I have been waiting for this he just said "Yeah, on some of the 2012 wranglers one of the vendors put out bad heads."

I had the light on for a week. I took it in last Friday but they just flashed the computer, then the light popped on again Sunday hence why I took it back in today.

They are giving me a rental since it might take a day or two for the head to come in. It better be another jeep.

My frickin' turn!!!

Got the CEL at 41k +/-. Took it in, last time it was an oxygen senor.

No such luck this time. Number 2 cylinder misfiring.

Will take a week for the new head to come in (they can't make em fast enough).

I have a 400 mile business trip Monday & Tuesday. The tech (mechanic) say no problem, go for it. I have the service tech on voice mail giving me that advice.

Anybody get close to 41,000 before it turned to $#1+?

Congrats. I think someone recently said they got it at 48k. It's a design flaw, so it's pretty much inevitable for all 2012s. You should be happy it happened under warranty. Though now you'll have 40k on one head and 0 miles on the other...

Had my first head issues in Feb of 2012(think I posted around page 3) when they were first trying to diagnose/ignore this issue. My local dealer went a little overboard and replaced pretty much the whole engine, but at least he was supportive in saying that the tick wasn't right. Now 24K miles in and the tick is slowly making its way back since all that was done before they fixed the head issue. Not driving a sewing machine like I once was but its there again. Not even going to fool with it right now as I have a 2014 on order.

Don't think the clock starts over. It's 100k period. Doesn't matter. I will trade it in two years.

I wasn't pointing out warranty issues. I pointed out that you'll have one head with 40k of wear on it and one with zero. That's a pretty large differential.

I have 16K miles on my 2012 and wanted to keep it forever! But with all this B/S about head failures I traded it in for a 2014. Lost about $500 so no big deal. Who wants to deal with sloppy dealer repairs and all the crap that comes with it. TRADE IT IN!

Cool. You traded a 2012 for a 2014 with a $500 loss. Could you please advise how you did that? Really...................(insert emoticon here)

I think mine is going to do it again. I had the heads replaced on both sides for it a few months back. When I got the jeep I got good mileage around 18mpg then steady dropped till it hit 13mpg on the highway soon after that engine light came on. After the fix the mileage went back up to 18mpg for a while then has steady dropped again and is back to 13mpg. Same as last time and sounds like crap again.

Dealer said my ticking is common for this engine. Rep is aware of head problems but said this is not the case with my complaint about the tick. I bought a used 2012 about two weeks ago with 21k on it. Will calling Chrysler do anything ? Is there an engine tick normally? Comes from driver side just like explained here. What to do now?

can somebody tell me 2014 model year with this "new" part will not give me premature head replacement problem? if so, it's my time to buy a new sahara.

honestly, i have been keeping my breath for about a year or so when i descided to buy a jeep (TLC i got bored) but could not risk the new engine testing in harsh Mongolian environment and plus with no warranty at all by gray import from US.

Got my Rubicon back

I got my jeep back yesterday running excellent. I confirmed corrected head part #. Only bitch so far is that they changed the oil with Dino oil after I just did a Mobil 1 oil change. It could be worse. Start mileage on second head is 14,824.
Good luck everyone.

I traded my 2012 with 10K miles in on a 2013 and got 2500.00 more on trade than I paid. I did at lift and tires but still good.

So my dec 11 build just failed. The light has been intermittent for a couple weeks. Started running rough and idling rough. Light came on. Plugged in a obd reader and got P0302. Dealer flashed it and said plan on leaving it for a new head next time. Took 20 mins out of my day. They have fully assembled heads in stock with a 1-2 day turn around. Not worried one bit. Still love my rig.

Paid 23K for the 2012 and got $22K trade allowance with $500 of tire wear. Resale value is so high, why deal with head issue.

I had my driver's side head replaced in June on my 2012 Wrangler. I figured I'd wait until November of '14 when the BTB warranty runs out (yes I know I have a 5 year/100,000 warranty on the powertrain) and get a '15. That'll give me some time to see if Chrysler really fixed the head issue with lots of '13 and '14 Wranglers out there putting miles on.

Was at dealer today for oil change and brought up the tick again. I listened to 2013 and they were equal. He said they have only worked on couple wranglers. Most heads were on minivans and they are not receiving many. I'm fine cause of the 5Yr 100k. At least it's noted again and I'm confident if I do throw a code they will be on it and provide loaner, so just going to continue enjoying!

I called Chrysler to make a complaint about it. Referred me to see another dealer for another diagnosis and gave me a case#. Maybe I am being paranoid. D these engines tick at all without the head issue? My F150 has a slight tick to it, but not as loud. I will be making another app.

Here is the video I took about a year ago when I first started to notice a tick (around 5-7k miles)

Here is the video yesterday once I got my jeep back from having the head replaced. I noticed a difference in sound driving off the lot. (27k miles)

The weird thing now is i am seeing my temp gauge jumping around. Before it would stay about 1 tick below half mark. Since I picked it up yesterday it is jumping back and forth over the half way mark. It goes one tick above middle then pulls back. Maybe I never noticed this before but I hope the dealer didn't screw something up. Took it back and had them check it out, but they are saying it is normal.
