Took it back and had them check it out, but they are saying it is normal.
Did they change your head, and then the temp needle started jumping? Was it jumping around before they changed your head? If the answer to both those questions is no, then they screwed something up. My bet is they didn't properly bleed and fill the cooling system. Check the coolant level in the radiator, and the recovery tank. Be sure both are full when the engine is COLD Fill the radiator to the top of the neck, and the recovery tank to the full cold level. Check the morning after a drive of at least 30 minutes for the next few days, top up as needed. I bet there's air in the system which would explain the needle bouncing around. This is why I hate having someone else work on my vehicles.

Bleeding the system takes time and is something a lot of techs don't bother doing. They over fill the recovery tank and hope. If you get lucky you have a tech who cares work on your vehicle and the job is problem free, unfortunately that is the exception many times.

I picked up the jeep and noticed the needle jumping, but it was only a 5 minute ride back to work. I checked the coolant tank and saw it was empty. I don't know if they just filled the radiator and never rechecked the levels but I took it right back to the dealer. They had it for 30 minutes and they bled the system and said there was air in the system. They maxed out the coolant after that. The needle was still a little jumpy, not as much, on the way home yesterday and on the way to work today, but I figured I would ride on it for a couple days and see if it levels out. Thanks for the info, that is helpful since it gives me a little reassurance

No problem. You have to check it a few times over a few days. If there is air in the system it can be a PITA to get out, even if they claim to have bled it. Just be sure to check it in the morning when the engine is cold, be sure to fill the radiator to the very top, and make sure the recovery tank is at the cold full line. That will also let you know if there are any leaks as time goes by.

Bill,
I hope it doesn't get you, but I think you took delivery slightly before me and the dreaded "ding" Check Engine Light just chimed on mine. PO302 misfire #2 cylinder. 32K miles
Taking it in tomorrow, service guy said it will take a week. Yeah, BS but they will test everything possible to try and keep from replacing head.

I was told no rental car , anyone know for sure if one is supposed to be provided?

Yes you get a rental for free! If they say no advise them you're contacting Chrysler directly and you will get it! Keep us posted.

My dealer did my repair in one day. They did initially refuse me a rental but if you call Chrysler support they will make the dealer put you in a rental. Mine was in and out in under 24 hours.

Didn't leave it today but did talk to service, tried the call Chrysler bluff, and he asked if I had the number. He wrote it down for me.LOL
They are going to check it tomorrow. When I left the dealer the light was not on. I had checked the code the first time myself and then undid battery to clear. The light came on the second time in about 50 miles, but then on restart from dealer, no light. Is that normal, or should it stay on?

Give it a few cycles, it will come back. Mine cleared the first time at the dealership on a Saturday, lucky me. Was back on by Tuesday

Does not always stay on but it will be recorded and they can find the code. Take a pic!

Service guy gave me this number to call 1-800-992-1992. I haven't called yet waiting to see what the diagnosis is and how long they might need my Jeep.

Took my 2012 rubicon unlimited in to dealership today,27,000 miles for new head, #2 cylinder not firing. They said they can do it in 3 days. No charge, also free rental. I think all this sucks! Especially for what I paid for it. It better run good when I get it back. Good luck to all.

I won't need a rental, my dealer surprised me. They diagnosed head bad, had one in stock and will have it finished tomorrow afternoon, this after telling me it would take a week. There are good dealers and mine has always been good to me.
As for the problem, I never heard anything, felt anything or noticed anything. If the CEL hadn't come on I don't know if I would have ever known.

Man that is one hell of a smoking deal. I'd be trading every 2 years w/o giving it a second thought.

got my rig back yesterday. dropped if off wed and it was done late thursday. couldn't get down to grab it so went afterwork on friday. AC head installed. had a cel P0118 for coolant temp sensor that was loose. they fixed it in 5 minutes while i waited. no other issues at all. runs great. smooth. no more misfire. quiet and powerful. work order showed 60% leakage on cyl #2. chrysler provided a rental. don't let this worry you. it really is painless.

A design fault which will result in 100% failures of motors produced prior to July 2012 when the fault was fixed. Deal with it in your own way (ie) trade or go through BS with dealer warranty fix. My choice was to trade.

Well I got all but $500 back on my 2012 but paid $4900 more for 2014 with hardtop and some extra options. I still feel like I made the right decision!

Well, finally got to take the Jeep back to the dealership. They called today saying the cylinder head needs replaced. I acted surprised and they stated that they haven't had many of these. He then stated that it would be done Monday. All and all, it has been over a year since I first complained about it. In the end, I just needed the support of the computer. Looking forward to the change. I want to know what, if any, changes in performance and mileage there will be. Because, for having 290 horses, it's never acted like it.
