Same with mine. Guess I'll give Jeep a call and see what they say.

Jeepinuse, that video is great. EXACTLY like mine. Drivers side as well. Take a piece of 5/8 heater hose a few feet long, put one side on your ear and probe around where the valve cover meets the head. I bet you will find the noise is between #2 and #4 cylinder. My thought is the milling machine making these heads had a bad bit or screwed up programming on the lifter bore(s). It was only one lifter bore on mine.

As a member of the UAW I am offended! You, or your friend are stereotyping and it is not fair. Every factory has lazy employees but to blame the so called lazy employees without proof is WRONG!

Great job. Now i know pretty much what the "ticking noise" people are describing. Mine, is much quieter, for now anyway.

Any chance someone can redo that video with the sound deadening plastic cover removed from the engine to get the full effect?

j0nx - you wouldn't be able to hear the injectors on that video camera mic. It is much louder in person. I have the same engine in my T&C, and it is whisper quiet.

That noise in that video sounds way too fast to be a lifter at idle.

keeping in mind that the cam spins at half the rate of the crank, so the lifter doesn't operate at the speed noted on the tachometer. i didn't think about this at first. it still sounds odd if it's rattling in the bore, as was noted by the OP of this thread.

Well I'm back from the dealer, however, my Jeep is not. They are keeping it over night to hear it when cold at start up. They have identified the ticking somewhere around the #2 cylinder. They were working on P0302 when I left and a leakage test. The bad thing is the service manager was telling me he doubts Chrysler will do anything about it until a code pops or a light comes on. That sucks! The mechanic heard it with his stethoscope, the service manager did and so did I. We all agree something is not right. The mechanic said he has replaced several and they have all been fixed by a complete head assembly. He went back to try and order it but now they don't come all together but as individual pieces now. Really?

I was BSing with the sales folks while waiting and two of them told me they got a bullentin from Chrysler on certain Wranglers and they had to go out and check them all and the ones they found had to have something done to them in the shop. They didn't tell me if it was software or a repair of some kind. They also wouldn't let me see the bulletin.

The video I posted is just one I found on you tube. Mine does not sound nearly that bad but I'm glad I went and got it checked out. Guess I'll find out tomorrow what they are going to do to fix it, if anything. I'm just glad it is documented!

I read this and called my service manager and he swears up and down that they are replacing the complete head assembly. It should be here in a couple days. Fingers are crossed.

It's been like that since day one! This week is the SRTs doctor appointment. I'll stop by and have it looked at this weekend hopefully.

Maybe we are getting a 1/2 diesel 1/2 gasoline hybrid engine and don't know it.

I wondered..... I tried to get one driving because that "tick" almost sounds like a diesel going down the road.

I bought mine in November - it's still at the dealership waiting on parts so I will go by tomorrow and get the build date.

Kelsey, that is the same as mine. I bet you have one of the extra special heads on yours as well. I never heard it with the window down unless I was close to a wall or guardrail. I had one lady in a drive thru ask me if I had checked the oil in my Jeep. That was the last straw for me!

I hear it whenever the windows are down fairly clear. Its when you're cruising you can't tell.

Until Chrysler does something I don't think that extra special head will come off. The passenger side sounds just as loud, so that's why I dismissed it before. The local dealers don't want to take any initiative around here. It generally takes 2-3 trips to get anything fixed. I leave negative feedback all the time and it doesn't get fixed. My SRT is going in for attempt 3 to fix my interior squeak.
