Uh-oh! It's getting uncomfortably close! I know you were a very early build, early in the first week, if not the first day, right?

How many miles?

I hope you get the redesigned head! Keep us posted

I was definitely early. I think first week or so. I just recently crossed over 12000. Had her at dealer 2 weeks ago for ticking sound. They didn't hear anything. But I went just for getting it documented.

Welcome to club tick friend. You should have told your jeep to wait a couple of months. You will likely get the old head.

3600 miles and misfire on cyl 6, CEL

My 2012 JKU has started running poorly. It sputters and doesn't run well under 3000 rpm. I am being told by the dealer that mine is just a bad injector.I am scheduled for an injector on Tuesday. We drove it 900 miles on vacation this week like this because no one would get us in to look at it.

Yah know mine ticks like a bitch at start up....5 seconds later......silent idle does seem a little "off" recently though. I suspect sooner or later I'll see my CEL. 11656 miles presently.

Mine did the same thing at startup and has so far gone away just after 2 months. I thought I had the tick starting not long after I bought the jeep but things seem to have gotten better for mine. Weird. Im sure it will all come back some time but hopefully it won't be for a while. The longer the better and hopefully ill get the newer designed head(s) when it has to go in.

I hear ya. I was hoping she'd make it through summer. If there is one time of year I hate not having my Jeep, it's summer.

i'm holding out till summer is over too. my tick is obvious, but not as bad as others and i'd rather have the redesigned head. i have 3k miles now and i'm planning a huge road trip in august. if the CEL goes off in the grand canyon, chrysler is going to get a nice tow bill and 1 way rental back to oregon.

^ ditto. I have the tick, but it's not terrible yet. I have 11,800 on her now. No codes yet. I've did the exhaust and re-geared to 4:10's and I drive her hard. She feels strong as ever so I'll just drive and enjoy and warranty will cover me when it's time

Allpar calls it a "rare" problem, judging from the regulars who post here I wouldn't consider it a rare problem at all. From what I can gather the fix entered production, the people who already got a head replacement didn't get the fixed head. What about engines currently being produced, are they still getting the old design head? I have a feeling we might be seeing some 2013's with this problem too. I wish all you guys with the problem the very best.

The internet is skewed. For every one person that comes here and complains of engine issues, how many are silent in the fact that they have no issues? People who aren't members of the forum may be more likely to join if they are having issues and need help instead of just wanting to be part of a community.

I was referring to the regular members here, I realize what you are saying, and there is truth to it. A bit OT, I met someone last weekend at a party who works for a local Jeep dealership, in service. He says the problem is worse than we are being lead to believe, and they are downplaying it. Keep in mind also there are people who are clueless they have issues, until that CEL rears its ugly head along with the tick.

I don't think Chrysler would re-design and re-tool for a new head if the problem was extremely rare. It would be much cheaper to just replace the heads as needed.

Chrysler is not going to go public and say we have a engine defect. They will quitely fix them if at all possible. It would be very bad for sales to say we have a bad engine, but dont let that bother you. Once the fix is out, the will quickly and quitely make repairs.

Another good point, its not cheap to re-design and re-tool anything these days.

I feel bad for those that had their head replaced with another bad head under warranty only to have the replacement fail out of warranty.

Chrysler should be extending peoples warranties for this since there's no way to tell when the problem will pop up. Happens in the first 5k for some, doesn't happen until 40k for others.

Another reason I'm having all my service done at the dealer until I'm sure I have a solid vehicle to build on. I want to give them no reason for denying warranty coverage should something happen.

So I took my Jeep back in to the dealer yesterday. They ordered a head & said it will be in next week. They also told me that they have been limited to ordering one a week.

You should mention this board and Allpar and ask if you are getting the re-designed head, or just a replacement.

IMHO, I don't think this is a big as we all think. I was at the dealer Thursday and talked with the service manager whom I know pretty well and would tell me thee truth. At this dealership they have not had one pentastar throw a code and need a head. They are a high volume seller, so it makes me feel good that with the thousands sold they did not have one issue as of yet. I went as far as to show him the letter from Chrysler and introduced him to this thread. He advised if it becomes an large wide spread issue, Chrysler is excellent at notifying the public and not to be concerned.

I heard just the opposite. Reading that they re-designed the head leads me to believe otherwise. Either way I feel bad for those with the problem, and I hope it really is a small problem and is corrected quickly going forward.

It's great to keep up with what's happening with this situation, but there still is NO reason to worry or stress in the least. Drive em, enjoy em and relax. They are WARRANTIED to 100K!!! I seriously do not understand the big "freak out" with some people.....not all, but some. It's a faulty head design on SOME. They will be fixed as necessary and that's it's. Its supposed to be a Jeep thing to relax and drive.....not stress and worry

Btw: I have the dreaded tick, but I'm not worried on the least. Just driving and enjoying knowing that it is going to be fixed for FREE should it get bad or throw a code.
