I've noticed they really work on getting the 3.6L quiet in the other applications. In the wrangler they didn't even try, so that could be an affect of what everyone hears.

I have another 94K on my warranty and I'm not going to worry about it. Need to quit reading forums LOL
The Wrangler has a specific change to the oiling system:

"Other Wrangler-specific changes include a unique oil pan arrangement to keep the engine oil within reach of the oil pump to prevent oil starving at extreme angles."

Unfortunately, no. I stopped by this afternoon and found the head still not on. I kinda lit a fire though, so I hope it will get it's due attention tomorrow. BTW, the Patriot I have as a rental car doesn't drive to bad, but that CVT crap trans needs to be deep 6'ed....

Thought I would add a few more pics -
The sleeve setup on this engine is pretty interesting, as well as the 43 miles of timing chains!

I've been debating getting another Patriot, but the CVT had me turned off. It's a great sized car to head into town with and use as a DD. I really would've liked mine more if it had a conventional auto.

I kinda like the size of it - and limiteds look pretty nice. First thing I thought of is a mini SRT version. 5 speed auto or 6M with the 300 + HP version of the 3.6. Maybe AWD? It would be fun then!

With the CVT, I always feel kinda like the guy in the song little Nash Rambler - trying to figure out how to get it out of second gear.

Not sure if they are "obligated," but most dealerships will take care of you if you push them a little. I have bought alot of cars from my dealership, so I just asked.

That alone will contribute to a lot of engine noise.

I bought mine in August and fall into the first batch group. But I've had no check engine lights so I'll wait to see if it happens before taking it in.

I was a bit concerned back in October during a Jeep Jamboree because the ticking was loud! I marked it off as being hot from the slow speeds. It never threw a code or missed a beat but sure did tick.

I have to reiterate, and I think we are on the same page anyway: background engine noise is normal on any internal combustion engine. The valve train tick my engine developed was not normal and was out of the 3.6s normal operating noise. Same engine and basically the same mileage on my 2011 Chrysler, and they sounds nothing alike.

Mine never threw a light or stored a code.

hmmm, i am going to wait a little to take mine in, but I does have a noise that made me stop and listen, drivers side, loudest from standing just behind the front wheel. almost sounds like an exhaust leak. hmmm, now to find a mod friendly dealer, i have a lift. It didnt cause it but also dont want to deal with Idiots who say it did. I have about 5500 miles on mine, have changed the oil 3 times, now with castrol synthetic. jeep made in sept i think, would have to look to be sure, it sat in jeep hell for awhile before it was delivered to the dealer.

I will most likely end up getting a 2013 with the new multi-air 4cyl. and hopefully a conventional auto. I really liked mine, but just couldn't stand the CVT to weird compared to a normal auto.

I ended up trading mine for the wrangler and never looked back. I will just have both! I really have a problem

One more point about the picture I posted showing the cylinder sleeves. Underneath where the intake sits you see the silver box? That is supposed to be an oil cooler, then directly behind that you will see two oil pressure related switches/sensors and look even closer, you will see a black braided covered hose running behind the switches/sensors. That is a heater hose. Soooooo, in the future, we will be pulling and intake to fix a heater hose. Sometimes I wonder what the engineers are thinking..or if they are thinking at all!

In the same boat no lights or codes just a tick that developed and was not normal engine noise. I'm interested to see if the new head clears it up. The regional engineer here suggested the timing chain tensioner. Makes me think Chrysler really isn't sure what it is yet. New tensioner should be in soon and I'll post back after.

With the design of the tensioner and chain on this engine, I do not see how it could make this noise unless it had a playing card stuck in it's spokes. (yup, I know it was a bad joke). On mine, I can say for sure it was a lifter.

I mean I guess I kind of figure hey, we're early adopters. Had to expect some issues going in. To me, I was so sick of driving something slow that it is worth it even with the ever-mounting worry I will have a relatively major engine malfunction. The main thing is that Chrysler and the dealers stand behind these things for 100k/5 years. That's a long time away for just about all of us.

Up Hill Bill and Cosmos you are both right, I was taking things too seriously. Stems from spending too much for a Jeep and it not being right. So Cosmos I will keep that in check and lighten up! I am sorry for my post!

2012 JKU engine tick - YouTube

wow... That is pretty load.

Will admit... I thought you folks were being overly concerned. That would concern me
a little being a brand new jeep.

My Tj sounded like that around 50k. 4.0 was notorious for lifters noises.
No more no less till I traded it in with 150k

I hope they figure it out

No need to apologize. I've done much worse when I was very serious about a subject, and others were joking around! If I learned to lighten up, you've got it made, friend.

That's where it's at. Chrysler needs to figure it out. Check out the vid I posted.

Sounds like Jeep/Chrysler better get out in front of this if they want to maintain the excitement generated by the Pentastar!

I watched your vid.

sounds exactly like my 4.0 did. Funny, someone mentioned looking back on this problem and blaming a wrong spec or something. When I traded in my Tj,the sales guy started it up. I was a little embarrassed of the tick/noise that it made.
his comment "all 4.0's sound like that"
Is it going to be the same for the 3.6? Hope not
