The good news is I get to drive this awesome dodge avenger in the meantime!!!!

So far just two days to do the leak down test, change the oil and say "nope, that ain't right." I was told to drive it and not to freak out if the check engine light comes on. I dig my Jeep just not the tick. NC lemon law is 4 trips to the dealer with no resolution or 20 days without my vehicle. I hope it doesn't come to that.

Sounds good to me! I have some TKOs and Duratracs coming in on Monday, and a Teraflex performance kit will be here tomorrow. I'll be ready for some fun!

my check engine light didnt come on for the ticking. I did have a code pop around 1000 miles for a faulty injector. ended up being the wires to the #3 injector (i think it was #3) were chewed up some how. engine ran horribly as soon as I started it and the light came on. drove it directly to the dealership.

It's an automatic. I think it idles right around 8-900 RPM...

Ahh that explains it, mine idles a lil less with the manual tranny. Like I said mine sounds similar and almost not existent compared to jeepinuse rig in this thread. I'm going to keep an eye/ear on it and I may cancel the dealer appointment I have for Monday until the noise is more substantial or a recall is made.

offcamber, yours didn't sound as bad as some. Mine really wasn't that loud but it wasn't right either. Hopefully those of us going through this mess will get Chrysler to issue a recall. If you don't want to take it in but still want to get your concern documented in case it gets worse you can email Chrysler Customer Care or call them and get a case number for documentation.

Well that Chrysler number sure works. Case manager called today and was confused on why the dealership didn't fix it on the spot. So after she had a talk with the service manager I got an appointment on Tuesday so they can rip it apart. I guess we'll see what happens......

I just got a call from my service rep and they are just going to replace the lifters. They should have the parts monday or tuesday. Hopefully that is all it is and the new lifters fix it.

UPDATE: Jeep is back with me and is quiet as a mouse now. FINALLY I can hear the injectors firing. This is what it is supposed to sound like.

otnewt, I hope the lifters fix the issue. The lifter bore itself, at least on my engine, was out of spec. I am just glad it's fixed, because I am spending the next three days with the mod bug. Lift, tires and wheels, stereo.

i82, it is always a pleasure to work on my 70 after dealing with the new stuff. I still write with crayons, so the computer controlled stuff makes my head hurt.

The longer I read this thread, the more I love my mini van motor. I had an 2000 F150 with a casting flaw on the passenger side block surface. Didn't leak that much but it just pissed me off to pay thirty grand for a truck and it leaked oil. No help from Ford. I'm sure the Jeep folks will get to the bottom of this soon and respond appropriately.
