Forgive me Bill for not reading through all of this again. Did you have a head replacement? Or would this be a second head replacement for you? Just the fact that they are now ending with the letter C in their head upgrades is puzzling to me. Either they fixed it or they didn't.

Nothing yet. No tick, no codes. Build date is (IIRC) one day or so before sandbaja. All the early 2012 orderers who's Jeeps were built around the same time as mine (1st week or so of production) seem to have had heads replaced. I'm kinda hanging out here all by myself.... I only have < 7,000 miles, though, so maybe that's why?.....

Mine is 2012 sport. Ticks like a woodpecker when starting for about 3 sec, then quiets. 2900 miles. 42 years and this is my first new vehicle and first jeep; if only I had same luck with lottery

Your guess is as good as anyone's, it sucks to be in the dark though. It would be nice to know exactly what's going on. Maybe you got a good one! Good luck with it buddy!

First day was the 14th of July, 2011. Mine was built the 7th day, 20 July.

My build date is 12/11 and only 3500 miles. Don't think it about it much. Enjoying the jeep. If it happens, it will go in to the dealer.

Tick at anytime is metal wear. I have ford f150 with 175k miles and no tick ever, startup or acceleration. I had 2002 Saturn with filter at top, cartridge, no tick ever with 97k miles when traded for ticking jeep. Tick means malfunction and/or design flaw. God bless Government Motors.

I love my jk and am going to drive it until it blows up; that being said, if it blows, i'm going to wear out Government Motors on the internet every chance I get!

mine also ticked at startup with the old head. i'll report back tomorrow morning when i test out the revision C head in a cold start.

by the way, i noticed that they did not reinstall the foam block on top of the driver's side cylinder head on my replacement. i'm now wondering if that foam block was originally intended to hide ticking problems.

on my '12 there was a foam block on just the driver's side head from new. nothing on the passenger side. it covered the injectors. now i can see them. what do the 13's look like?

Do you have a picture of the foam block? I didn't notice that on mine. I need to look again.

The foam block is under the intake plenum.

i'm not sure if i took a picture, but it's visible next to the oil filler tube at 0:30-0:34 in my original tick video. i need to upload when it turned into a bad tick and then the fixed.


mine still ticks at cold startup for about 3 seconds with the rev. C head, so i think we can call that sound OK and unrelated to the tick, for now. the difference in the engine is night and day with the new head. i drove topless and doorless to work and i couldn't hear the engine at all. before it was like driving behind a beater dumptruck.

I'm still with ya Bill....same week (approx) as you and sandbaja and while I have a light to mod ick...no CEL/MIL yet thus original heads....

WHAT? Ford didn't take any Government Loan. Albeit, GM paid their loan, the Government still holds their GM stock that there going to be forced to sell at a loss.

true, but the US Gov still owns close to a third of GM's stock, making "Goverment Motors" still an accurate description in my mind

Ford took plant retooling loans from the DoE...not a bailout loan. Both Chrysler and GM had applied for the same DoE loans, but were rejected due to their financial status at the time...

Exactly.

Ford just put up the farm as collateral and retooled and revamped top to bottom. Nothing more.

Chrysler paid off their debt to us last year if I recall correctly. Good for them.

GM, well, not so much. We didn't get much for our $60B so far, essentially rewarded them for failure. It will be a while before we see if they do get there, but based on industry commentary I've read they're still as mismanaged as ever and I'd be surprised if they aren't back in the same hole before long. They still think they can overproduce and make it up with incentives and volume sales.

Now, back to your normally scheduled programming.....

My '12 JKU Sahara was built on 7/21/11. I'm at 7,100 mi w/o a tick or a check engine light. So, you are not alone Up Hill. My 2011 T&C has 11,000 mi and it too is w/o a Tick or CEL. Time will tell......

took mine in for the 2nd time due to engine code "cylinder #2 misfire" last week. They ordered a new head and called yesterday saying it's in. Taking her in on Monday for the operation. They say they will have her for 3 DAYS??? They better have a loaner for the 30K I spent on my 2012 JK.
