Upgrading Tires and Rims

So I bought a 2012 Jku and it came with 17" rims and now I want to get a new set of rims and put 35s on them. So my question is do most people stick with 17s with 35s or get smaller rims?

You can go 15 or 16" wheels and rubber will be much cheaper, however there is more tire sizes for 17's than the smaller wheels (well 15" wheels have more tire options than 16's). So if you plan to go 37's later, you will have more options for 17" wheels.

I ran 16's and 315/75R16 = ~35" tires
