Used Traildash2 issue. Factory reset required?

So I just received my TD2 from a seller on eBay. It's the correct model for my '12 JKR, the 42050. First thing I did was update it via the website with the Fusion updater.

The issue is that when connected to the OBDII, it immediately attempts to install the factory program, but fails. It then reboots and attempts again and again with no success. I, of course, followed the on-screen prompts for ignition on/off, etc.

I'm wondering if it's "tied" to the previous owners ECU, thus not allowing me to go any further? I would think that a factory reset would take care of the issue but I don't see a way to perform the reset since I can't even get to the "home>settings" menus.

I plan on calling Superchips on Monday, but thought I'd see if any of you TD gurus here have any ideas.

Don't believe the TD2 gets linked to only 1 vehicle. I would also contact the seller ASAP and make him aware of the situation. You might need to return the item. Good luck, let us know what you find out from Superchips and the seller.

I have the TD2 and pretty sure that it is tied to one Jeep. It needs to reset the previous jeep to factory setting before it can be used on another jeep. This would stop a person from buying one TD2 and then programming multiple jeeps.

It sounds like the problem you are facing, it is used and wasn't reset. Good luck getting this resolved.

Well, if this is truly the case, it is not good news. Hopefully, Superchips will work with me on a resolution. I'm not even sure if the ebayer was the original owner of the TD2 or if he acquired it by other means.

So, to be clear, are you saying the original purchaser must first reset their ecu back to stock before doing a factory reset of the TD2? Im hoping there's a "back door" method to do a reset, if that's the case. Otherwise I'll have to see if the seller will take it back, even though he stated "no returns" in the description.

Thanks, RockyMtn.

Yeah, your beef is with the eBay seller. Superchips may have good customer support, but I would guess they are limited on what they can do in this case. The eBay guy sold you a worthless product. If the eBay seller doesn't work with you, file a complaint with your credit card. The cc will quickly reverse the charges. If the eBay seller wants it back, they should pay shipping charges too.

Agreed. I did message the seller asking if he was the original owner of the TD2. Haven't heard back yet. It was listed "New" as an "Open Box" item, so hopefully he'll have no issues refunding the purchase plus shipping. If not, I'll have to get eBay involved. There is still the chance that it really is an issue with the TD2, in which case I'll have to contact Superchips.

Success! Called Superchips Tech Support today and they were extremely helpful. I uploaded some diagnostic files for them via the Fusion software. They then performed a factory reset remotely, after which I was able to connect and confugure everything just fine.

This really is a slick device. I tried out the 87 octane performance tune, turned off the TPMS (at least until I figure out which sensor is bad) and played around with numerous other settings.

I'm not seeing the Rubicon-specific screen, though. During set up, it asked "Is this a 2007 Rubicon"? I pressed "No" because mine is a 2012. I guess this is why it doesn't have the Rubi screen? I thinking you have to say "yes" to their question regardless of what year your JK is before that screen is loaded? No biggie, as everything else is working.

Glad it worked out for you! If I recall correctly it asked if you have a 2007+ Rubicon, so maybe that's it. Call them back tomorrow and ask them how to access that again. It might also be in the settings option possibly.
