Using the USAA car buying service?

Didn't want to continue hijacking another thread so posting this separately. I managed to find the 1K extra discount for USAA (car buying service otherwise mirrors what I get through GEICO). So now I have a problem I think and am not sure how to proceed. Last weekend a dealer about 25 miles from me ordered the exact vehicle I want (will be here in mid-January or so) with no $$, paperwork, etc. Just my name, address, and phone number. I had planned on using the Tread Lightly 1% under invoice deal. Now I found out I was eligible for USAA as former military (thought you had to be 20+ years service i.e. actually retired not just separated to join) and just signed up tonight.

Here's the problem. If I go to their car buying service and plug in my home zip code, it offers me 3 dealers, does not name them, but tells me they're 13.x, 14.x, and 30.x miles away and wants me to enter my name and email to send to them. If I plug in the zip for the city where the dealer is that ordered the JKU for me though it tells me there is one 0 miles from me, and two 30.x miles.

So I'm trying to figure out how to approach the dealer I went through to order because the 0 mile one is definitely them. I don't expect to be able to combine the TL discount plus USAA (not that I would complain if I could lol) and I guess I would now consider the TL membership just "for a good cause". I'm just not sure about how to work with the dealer on the USAA thing.

All you need to do is put in the zip that corresponds to the dealer you want to use, print the certificate and take it to him. They have agreed with the USAA Buying Service to honor the deal. I have also seen where people have gotten the deals combined, but that was not my experience. Good Luck.

BBDad57 is right - just print the certificate and take it to the dealer. You are not under any obligation if you put in your zip and complete the process on the USAA site. Once you do it, it then gives you the names of the 3 dealers, provides a certificate for you to print and sends them your contact info.

No obligation on your part. When I did it, I just picked one of them and never spoke with the other two.

I have also heard of people combining the TL discount with the USAA discount. The dealer is reimbursed for both, so they shouldn't care.

What kind of deals does GEICO offer? Is it for anyone insured through GEICO? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

Anyone with GEICO can get it. It's similar to the tread lightly deal. It works out to just under 1% below invoice. Something like .98% if you do the math. Their prices are a bit off on one or two things though so I'm not sure what to make of that (connectivity group is listed at 460 MSRP instead of the 385 it really is).

Thanks I'll look for that. I guess I missed being able to print something. All I was seeing is "put in your name and email and one of the dealers will contact you".
