Valet Keys

After some research I have discovered,(Correct me if I am Wrong), that there are two sets of keys for my 2012 Wrangler Sport. One set of Gray (chip encoded), and one set of Black Valet keys?

My understanding of Valet Keys is to let a Valet park your car, and not let them into the glove box or Center Console.

My salesman said that he could not find the second set of keys and had some made at the dealer.

Now the "Valet" keys, (which are flat new made keys), will get me in the door but not start the vehicle, and will not get into the glove box or center console.

This concept defeats the "Valet Key".

Do I have the correct set of Keys?

Regards

Rick

To my knowledge they do not offer a valet key with the Wrangler. At least I never received a valet key, just two keys with integrated remote lock/unlock, panic and remote start. The whole point of a valet key is one that let's them park the car but keeps your glove box and trunk locked and the valet out. You may have noticed your driver's seat is in the trunk.

My Jaguar had a valet key.

Nothing is worse then locking your real keys in the trunk, and only having the valet key..

no to the OP on 'valet keys'....what you've got is the black non-chipped key that will unlock the door....but the alarm (if set) will go off....and you won't be able to start the engine beyond a second or two before it shuts off.

I've never found Official Reference to 'valet key' in any factory publication.

Yes, and what's up with that? I've had alarms all over the place, but haven't traded with the wife for her keys, to see how they act. I mean why does this key let me unlock the door manually and then set off the alarm, as I sometimes just want to open the front or back door for something without lighting up the whole neighborhood, so instead, I wake them all up with the horn sounding.

2 keys only. No valet key with delivery. I wouldn't turn my Rubi over to a valet anyway.

No valet key. If you have a key made by the dealer and they didn't charge you$250.00 for it then it isn't chipped and will not do anything with the alarm. I had a key made at Wally World so that if I accidentally lock my key in the jeep (again) I won't have to work for a couple of hours with a piece of spring steel to try and find the unlock mechanism...which by the way does work. A slim jim would have had me in the jeep in a couple of minutes.

are your black headed keys with or without the "lock-unlock-PANIC" buttons?

My 08 has no fobs, came with (2) black 3-button chipped OEM keys all encased in a rather large one piece key-head...but smaller than a separate fob and key. If I lock from inside OR lock from key button, then unlock using key-in-slot without 'unlock button'....the alarm will go off....but what the hey, let that wake them slackers in the 'hood up anyway...

The iKeyless.com outfit sold me some chipped grey headed keys with no buttons, that I was able to program using my OEM keys.

And if I use the grey keys to unlock when the alarm is set, off it goes, just as designed.

Actually, its not the unlock , it's the operating the door latch that sets the alarm off.

I could expect such with the non-factory greys. With the OEM black mutha's I don't know why.

You are incorrect. There are no valet keys for a Wrangler. The car comes with two identical keys. However, maybe a dealer can throw a valet key for you, but as far as OEM, two regular keys.

Both of ours are with lock-unlock-PANIC" buttons and act the same as yours....

I would like to have a valet key hidden under the hood in case I ever get locked out, not to give to valet drivers.
