I test drove the 08 wrangler and loved it. I am very tall 6'8 and have a long torso. The jeeps tend to be more "upright" in driving style. Because of this the back of my head touches the crossbar. It hits the pad which can be removed and also hits the plastic that mounts the overhead light and speakers. Can anyone shed any light on how to take care of the problem? I would have to cut some of the plastic off, or remove the entire piece to make it comfortable.
My other option would to find a seat that is lower. I would then have enough clearance. Many thanks to any thoughts or suggestions.
Hi Matt. Welcome to WF.
I'd go with lowering the seat. You should be able to replace the stock seat rails with lower rails and it would be easier than cutting up your crossbar.
Thanks for the great suggestion. Is there also a "thinner" seat to free up some room? Could you point me in the direction of the rails that you mentioned? Thanks!
Which model did you drive? The seat in my Sahara goes up and down; I don't think the X does that.
I'm 6'5" and I clear the cage pretty well.
There are aftermarket seats too. Companies like Sparco and Recaro make some nice products. A custom upholsterer could make your seat thinner and Jeep-builder could also lop off some of your perch if necessary.
Unless you can find a magic spot by moving the seat forward and reclining the seat-back, you'd be forced to do a hatchet job then.
I often complain that my 6 foot 5 frame is 2 inches too tall for comfort and convenience; at 6'8", you really feel the pain from the Global Conspiracy Against The Tall.
Sorry, bro.
Don't know yourself out on the bar, find a fix, and also consider raising the seatbelt attachment point. A lower seat will also give you a better shot at being able to see a traffic light if you are first in line.
