I'm going to purchase a Viair Compressor today.

The reason of the purchase is that I'm going to Cap Cod for our vacation and will need to air up from 11 to 35 psi when leaving the beach and do not want the wife to wait for hours.

I want to buy a Viair 300P or 400P but I'm not sure which one, I have the OEM tires on my Sahara.

I also saw the SmittiBilt 2780 & 2781, but I'm not sure that they are of the quality as the Viair!

Any comments or recommendations?

Thanks, Daniel

400p just in case you plan on bigger wheels/tires. BTW, air compressors are something that you use once in a while and not on a daily basis. My buddy has been running the smittybilt for several years with no problems. I would've gone smittybilt too if it weren't for the used viair 400p i got at a good deal.

The Viair 400P has worked well for us the last two years, but I have seen the Smitty used a good bit too. My opinion is you would be good either way. Get yourself a good deflater that saves you from loosing a valve gut. Curey, ARB, whatever.

I got the cheaper smittybilt one figuring if i wore it out I'd replace with something better. My friend used it to get my stock 32's from 18 to 35 psi in the time it took me to get the front sway bar bolts back in. It got very warm, but i was impressed at how quick it was.

^^^Sounds like you need to practice putting swaybar endlinks back on. :D

I had to make the same decision a few months ago..I went with the 400 because it has a better hose (UV resistant) and a slightly higher CFM (airs up faster). When i'm on the trail I ALWAYS get aired up faster than anyone else (except for the guys carrying a tank)..
I did have one problem with it - it died after the first time I used it.. Sent it back and they found a failed internal switch.. they took care of it and replaced it. This seems to be an isolated incident as I dont see others complaining about it in any reviews..

I'm impatient. Went with a 400p and still thought it was slow as Christmas, even on my stock Rubicon-sized tires. Switched to a CO2 tank last year. Finally satisfied with my fill speed. :) Still carry the 400p with me just in case, plus I haul it out west on the airplane when I'm renting a Jeep in Utah or California. I suspect the FAA would frown on a CO2 tank in the hold.

Not sure if airing down stock Sahara tires to 11 is a good idea. Might be easy to lose a bead? I've read that stock sport SRA's shouldn't go below 18psi, stock Rubi Mud T/A's can go pretty low, but not sure about the Sahara Dueler AT's.

For portables I always recommend the Viair 400P
Good for all sizes to 37's. Now for OBA stay away from Viair they overheat and are slow and just Sucks. I am liking ARB Twins for 37's constant duty CFM's to almost 7... Yes a few more bucks but that baby hums and can air up a few of your buddies too
