Cool visit to Jeep dealer for "air dam body panel bolt"

Due to the design, this are very useful and easy to install for various body panels. My 08JK has 4 holding on the front air dam and 2 more hold the grill-bumper air dam.

While there IS a phillips-style head to screw IN.....no one I've talked with has a way to remove them except by some form of destructive prying out method.

Once you get them out, it is difficult to reuse them.

Went to 4 different suppliers (NAPA, O'reilly, local hardware, Wilco Farm supply) and n NOBODY has the exact thing....similar but not quite the same....for 60 cents each.

Even the Jeep dealer didn't have it...."could order....at $6.00 Each!!!"

Given tomorrow weather is supposed to be a sun break day, I'm looking to tie back down my loose & floppy air dam tomorrow....with whatever fits. Anyone know a way to reuse these, or remove without destruction?

And..."$6.00 EACH".....REALLY???

I found the best way to remove them was "pinch" the backside - you have to reach around the air dam - while unscrewing the screw. Then a quick pry will remove the body. Any of the "clips" that are the same diameter will work - pick one that works for you. Some people have used nuts and bolts as well.

I have since ditched both the air dam and bumper/grill cover due to an after-market bumper.

Most people ditch the air dam in the first mud hole they meet.

Just removed my air dam this evening. No problem removing any of those. Just slowly unscrewed the screw and that was it.

Use a sheet metal screw. Screw 1/8 into the insert and pull out. Then the plug itself.
I've had my grill off twice and reused the clips. No problems and still hold strong.

clipsandfasteners.com baby

Here you go...25 clips for about $4.80 + $4shipping.
I bought a bag just to have as spares.
These may not be exactly what you have, but the company has pretty much anything in the way of vehicle fasteners if you know the code for the product. Prices not bad. Browse the inventory.

I use bolts and wing nuts so that I can take mine off when I go off road. It was probably $2.50 all up and I think it's more convenient

Now we're getting somewhere....these air dam things were much larger than the grill push pins, which I have been able to reuse.

I'll know tomorrow whether what I've got works or go to plan B.

It's amazing how unhelpful the Jeep Service Manager, the Jeep Parts Dept guy, and the Jeep Body Shop Manager were regarding a few basic questions, the WF was far more helpful. Thanks again.

These look like the same @&$! pins I ran into trying to swap to clear lenses up front. It seems any part or accessory I want the dealer says "I can order it." Heck,I can order it. I'm willing to pay more to be able to buy it then.
