So I am in Grand Cayman with the significant other and we ended up renting a Wrangler soft top (after much begging). I am loving the soft top and we have taken it down several times putting it up at night and the once or twice it has rained.

I have a hard top on my 2012, but now I find myself wishing I had opted for the dual top group. My question is what is the best route now to buy a soft top after the sale? I want a factory soft top for the quality, fit and finish but what is the best way to pick one up? I would imagine they will be very expensive from the dealer if they even sell a complete factory soft top.

Advice? Suggestions?

A soft top is the only way I would own a Wrangler. Mine had both on the lot and I made them deduct the hard top. The best way, IMO, to get a factory top is on CL or the For Sale section of the Jeep forums. You should be able to get a complete 2 dr top for around $600. Any year JK will fit.

I just bought one off eBay, from an 09 and it was only 400. eBay, craigslist and the classified ads here, there are ALOT of overpriced ones out there, like asking dealer prices for used sets, just keep an eye out, you'll find one.

Bought mine off CL for $500

Always had both

IMO good to have Both. No point during the winter Plus the soft top should last a long time being seasonal.

I bought a brand new factory soft top off of Craigslist for $500.Older gentlemen bought a jku off the lot that had the dual top option and wanted nothing to do with the soft top.Asking price was $800 but I asked if he'd take $500 and he did.If your patient u can definitely find some good deals out there.

I'm going to put my soft top on this weekend 

Bought one off of eBay from a guy, from his '11 JKU, won it for $407 but had to drive 2 hours to get it, brand news still rolled up w/ orange tag on it, with both boxes unopened, door surrounds and box with tinted windows, though he kept the bow arm brackets

We couldn't find one with both tops on the lot so I got a Best Top Supertop NX from Quadratec. They price matched a lower price I found. It's on and we love it. The windows are out and the top down every chance we get.

Went through the same thing but traded my hard top 3 months after buying the jeep for a soft top plus install to the dealer.

Dealer gave me $1800 on trade in and charged about $1200 for the soft top with install included. Would never buy another jeep with a hard top.

My 12 came with a hard top. Three months later I bought a soft top from the dealer for $1,300.

Though installing the soft top was a pain, I love the thing. I'll pull it off in the winter so the cold doesn't damage the windows.

Get the top installed by the dealer....trust me on that one

What is so hard about the install? It looks pretty simple or am I missing something?

Once you know what your doing it's easy I think it's just the lack of direction you get makes it hard and scary. Im just a little ol girl and did it myself. But my suggestion would be study a ton of videos on You Tube and do it yourself. There will be some sweat and some swearing but it's rewarding.

I have never actually had this thought before....but it is so obvious.. once you get your top....install hardware.....get with some Jeepers from your area and have a "Soft top install party". I mean most of us who have had Jeeps a while can about do it in our sleep, but to someone new, and with a new top a little experience from others at a "meet and greet" or something like that, would be invaluable. And it could be done anywhere you drive to "topless" and if brackets are in place install with a few other Jeepers would probably only take about 15 min?

Just an idea......

That would have been fun. I want to have a Jeep buddy. There are a few in my neck of the woods but I don't know them. One lives on my street but he's more about dressing it up for looks. He has a perm roof rack on with all the shovels etc attached. I see a tear in that Jeeps eye everyday me and my topless Jeep go by.
