Wanting to get rid of that huge stock muffler!

As the title states I want to get rid of the huge stock muffler! I've already tried the high heat paint to make it black and it does look much better but it is still huge and in the way when offroading. I am not looking to get a performance upgrade but more cosmetic.
After much research, I have narrowed it down to the Banks Monster Exhaust and the Dynomax Rock Crawler (Mainly b/c the sound is not too ricey or overwhelming on either). Any ideas where i can find the best prices on these? What a good price would be? better alternatives? Thanks for all of the help.

Got my DynoMax Evolution Offroad exhaust from Amazon. It came to $134 after the $50 mail-in rebate.

remove the muffler, and the pipe all the way back to the "y"... get a dynomax bullet and weld it on... done.

more clearance, great sound and nothing hanging off the back of your rig when you come off obstacles...

it's what i did.

Do you know the part number to find that on Amazon? Also, is it compatible w/ a JK (Some of what i have found is only compatible w/ JKU)? Thanks for the insight.

I searched long and hard for a high-clearance muffler that sounded decent and wasn't too noisy. I didn't like the sound of ANY of them. I prefer a quiet Jeep. The manufacturers of the so-called "quiet" mufflers apparently have a different definition of quiet than I do. So I bought the muffler skid plate from Mountain Off-Road and hope to finally get around to installing it tomorrow. It protects and hides the stock muffler and looks pretty darn good.

I am also looking for a new exhaust system. I have looked at the AFE and I just stumbled across Banks yesterday. I found the Banks on Amazon alot cheaper.

Sounds nice at idle but what does it sound like at different RPMs?

How does it sound while driving/under a load?

Maybe just a rev clip. Currently running the Dynomax Rock Crawler, but the tone softened a lot over the past year.

Is your emissions affected after doing that? in NY we have strict emissions laws when doing vehicle inspections and if its throwing a code or not up to specs it won't pass. That's the concern holding me back from doing something like this.

doesn't throw any codes, and i believe it'd pass noise emissions... not sure about CO emissions. but we don't have state inspections here in florida.

i'm a former new yorker, i feel your pain about the inspections... joined the army... left in 1994 - haven't been back since (except for the occasional yankee stadium visit).

You can get aftermarket cats that are smaller than stock. Check summit racing, jegs, etc..pretty cheap.

Too bad someone does not make one that is smaller (heightwise) but not any louder. I have not heard a Jeep (or Civic) yet that does not sound tacky and high-schoolish with an aftermarket exhaust.

^ This. The few I have seen/heard in person sound somewhat "Fast and Furious" to me. When I was younger (much younger) that sound appealed to me but not so much anymore. But a lot of the aftermarket mufflers look cool and seem to have some usable function so I guess it's a give and take.... And @tabber- thank you for your service!

A hemi swap will make the aftermarket exhaust sound better

Used to have an f250 with the exhauzt sawzalled right behind the cab. But it sounded good because it had a 351 with factory 4 barrel carb. It also stalled everytime you took a corner too fast haha.
