Warn W650D Driving Lights

I just bought and received my W650D lights and, while the wireless idea is a good idea, wanted to know about wiring them to a switch. Reason being, I am not keen about carryng around a spare battery or the possibility of losing the remote. So, I sent an email to Warn and just got this reply:

You can wire the lights to a hard wired switch. I believe we will have a kit to do this some time in the next couple of months.

Best Regards,

I think I will install them up now, and get the kit when it is available unless anyone has any other options.

Let me know also. I have the same lights installed. They are great! I actually have my remote attached with Velcro next to the radio.

I was wondering where to mount the remote. I hope they actually do come out with the switch kit soon, wonder if there is a way of having it switched and with a remote.

I am looking at installing the W650D lights this afternoon. Can you send me the pic of where you mounted the remote? I have also read that people use heavy duty zip ties to mount the remote next to the fuse and relay box? In terms of wiring I am a novice and I would prefer to only have to do this once. Any feedback you can provide will be helpful!

I just bought a jeep with these installed. Plus a pair of smaller lights up by the mirrors.

The Jeep is only 16 months old, but these lights are quite faded...meaning the housings. The guards are faded to a sparkling gray (glass filled Nylon looks like it) and the rear housings that I believe are metal are faded/chipped paint.

Any thoughts on tearing these down or taping them up (off the Jeep) and painting them? Satin black or something similar. Krylon Fusion? They have a hammered version also...but no idea if any of them are weatherable

Curious on experience with this...dont want to buy replacements.

I am looking to get a pair of these too, and was planning to just Velcro the remote to the sun visor.

What made everyone pick the driving lights over the fog lights? I was leaning toward the fog lights.

Dave,
Easy install, although my original post made it sound like I was having difficulty. I put the remote on the dash next to the switches for the heater, etc. The driving lights in my opinion are great, good vision out a considerable distance. I chose the driving lights for my hunting trips and other adventures out in the Central Oregon high desert. Additionally I already have a set of PIAA fog lamps on the bumper. Bought windshield mounts and put heat shrink on the wiring for protection. When I am not using the lights, I put the remote in the console so that I don't accidentally leave them on. Might want to check out some of the other posts to see what can happen if you do or if you wire the lights to your headlights etc. The installation guide recommends wiring directly to the battery. That is what I did and I think that it is your best bet. Good luck!
