So my wife was driving with our 2yro and a lady ran into her. Everyone is ok but the Jeep is going to need some new parts. Front axle mount was bent by the impact, wheels are messed up, body damage, and front bumper.

In case anyone is wondering what a 15-20mph hit to the passenger side looks like, Here is a pic.

The wrangler did its job and protected my wife and son. It didn't tip and the other car was much worse.

Have you guys or gals been in any accidents and what happened? Do you still drive a wrangler ?

Most important is your son and wife are OK. The Jeep did its job but now is the chance to make it better. I am assuming there is no frame damage. Time for some upgrades. Mine has never been in a crash so I cant help you there. Keep us informed as to how you get it fixed. Make sure its 100% back to what you had.

From your last question it sounds like you are questioning the decision to drive a Wrangler which is understandable given that you have an infant to be concerned about. The Wrangler receives quite good safety ratings given its design. It's weak point is the side and rear on the 2-door. I would say your incident put this weakness to a pretty good test and it came it out with flying colors. Your family is well and Jeep suffered relatively minor damage for 15-20 MPH collision.

It's completely understandable if you are concerned with safety. The Wrangler gets lumped into the Compact SUV category where the #1 choice is the Honda CR-V. The traditional roof and doors overcome the weaknesses found in the Wrangler.

In reality the Wrangler should be in a class of its own.

Thanks for that. It was a huge relief knowing they are ok!!

Yeah it was a scary phone call and not knowing what was going on

Damage report was about 9k. Funny thing is my wrangler hasn't dropped below 20k in kbb value and I only paid 24k!

I like that my infant son sits up higher, so even the hit he got would have had to be 2 feet higher up to do any damage to where he sits!

Guess I have to watch out for the bro trucks now lol

I don't know if the frame is bent. It did bend the control arm? I think that's what it's called where it attached to the axle

Glad your family is okay.....Assuming they get everything put back together properly on your Jeep (think I saw bumper in the list).....I have been in more than a few "accidents" over the years in my different JEEPS.
The silver Jeep PIC is the worst accident, and the injury came to my collar bone from the seatbelt the force was so strong....other guy blew through a red light.

I have been rear ended twice and had a guy pull out in front of me once, also had a guy lock his wheels in bumper to bumper traffic on wet pavement...I couldn't stop ....yes that means I was following to close for conditions...technically.

Other than the JKU in the Pic being totalled, as was the other vehicle a mini van, I was always able to drive away from the accident and most of the time repairs were less than $3-$4K......all the other hits were to my TJ which kinda had its own "exo cage" at bumper height for most vehicles.

The JKU did not have these up grades....my '12 JK does and our '14 JKU has the rock rails and rubi rails as well.

Rock rails, rubi rails and solid steel bumpers front and rear. Transfers the energy to the frame...ranted it also does away with the whole crumple zone thing....but I think the type of accident decides how important that is......

Couple of pics......

Jp, that silver JKU looks like it got a pretty hard hit! Glad you are ok.

Ok it sounds like you guys are saying the armor is good for on road as well as off road. I wanted the step Rubi rails to protect from door dings before the accident. I wish I had them on there

I'm going to take the advice and do front metal bumper and side steps.

I don't have the $$$ to do a rear bumper right now but that will be one the list

I did some looking around on forums, and rock rails, especially the ones that stick out from the body, provide crazy good side impact protection. Especially if a small car hits the side. The rails disperse the impact forces and protect the body, from what I read on forums. Of course, metal front and rear bumpers would be better than stock as well. Get some armor.
