Washing a Wrangler

What is the usual way of washing a soft top ?
Is it a good idea to take through someplace like Mikes carwash ?
Excuse my ignorant question.

Some people tell you that you can go through a car wash, but I don't. Water could possibly find its way in. I normally just wash it with a microfiber cloth and soap.

Our recon guys here have always just used mild to no soap and water to wash the soft tops. It's not an easy thing to wash properly.

...i have an electric pressure washer that's not too powerful. a jug of 'kit' car wash and a pail of hot water, pour a little of the 'kit' in the bucket and use a tore up old bath towel to wash with by hand.

...wash, rinse and repeat.

...hand dry it with a towel and you're done.

...nothing too fancy...it is a Jeep you know.

Don't do it. It loves mud and dirt.

Washing? Just run back and forth through a hard bottom creek.

I went through an automated car wash and had no problems. When the blow dryer's started it was a little unnerving but had no problems.

I have an '04 TJ -I live in Fort Wayne I have used Mike's since I got the Jeep in '04. In the summer I use a bikini duster and jammer so obviously it doesn't go through from March to Oct. My factory soft top suffered no ill effects from Mike's-I also go through with my half top no problem. A small amount of water does get "forced in" towards the end of the cycle-but it has half doors and water comes in there.
IDK about JK's - have heard lots of leaking stories. But as afar as chemical damage or wear on the top issue from the car wash-I have experienced none.

I'd only handwash it personally. Ruined my mustang soft top going through the car wash too many times already..

Is it a good idea to apply a sealer/protectorate to the soft top that would preserve the finish ?
