What are you using to keep water back there for your dog?

I use a collapsible cloth hiking dish but it doesn't work out well. Usually end up with a spill and a wet dog smell.

Same here. Even if I found a water bowl that wouldn't slosh all over, my Boxer would still get half of whatever he drank all over the Jeep.

I bought a couple of collapsible coated nylon pet bowls from REI. They fold down nearly flat and can be used for dog food or water.

The current model is different than what I have, but the concept is the same.

There is no practical way to keep a filled bowl available for them on the trail. One has to stop every so often and hydrate them.

I usually have two Nalgenes in the Jeep when we are out for the day or roadtripping and I bring along a ziplock container with a lid for the dog. I generally try to stop once every couple of hours for the hound to stretch and I just pour some water in the container. She drinks. I put the lid on and away we go. Spending $15 seems pretty silly when you probably have something laying around the house, but it isn't my money so I don't care.

I do like others here, I use a lock and lock. It is a snap on lide food container. What is great is that you save water that they do not drink for later. You can even keep it in a cooler or a fridge to keep it cold. I use a small container like 3"x3"x4" and fill it as needed.

Do not know if they are available in the US, but any type of air tight food container should be good.

I use this setup now as well. Used to just pour water into a regular metal bowl. (Keep one in both vehicles)

As LuckyJ stated, I got a little exasperated with always tossing out a bunch of good water that the pooch would be very willing to drink in a couple hours.

So, locking tupperware it is!

I don't water my boys in the JKU, like others have said, let them out and stretch their legs when you break. That said, both of mine can drink out of a standard water bottle, just hold it up in front of their mouths and pour it out slowly. The Rott will lap at the stream and get about 60% down, the Great Dane just opens his massive friggin maw and I pour right in there. (The Dane would probably make a bigger mess drinking out of a bowl, with those huge lips of his)

Often times when we're done working/having a good time he doesnt drink right away and pulling over isn't the best option, so I'd like to have something that he can drink out of on the go. I don't mind a little splash. Something that doesn't tip over.

I'm gonna give Super Dak's suggestion a try but appreciate all the ideas.

We use these. Seem to work pretty well on the road. Not too bad off road. Just toss a towel around it and put in the right rear corner in the back. :) https://smile.amazon.com/Supply-Imports-Anti-Spill-Waterhole-Animal/dp/B0002DGVW6
SchnauzerPower this bowl is fantastic and is exactly what we were looking for. My only problem now is remembering to empty the bowl since I was so used to the water being spilled all over. Also, it did flip upside down when I came around the corner only to find a deer hanging out in the middle of the road, but the entire contents didn't empty; there was still quite a bit left in the bowl. Thank you so much for everyones responses!!!

I do have one of those, but still the same issue, wasting a lot of good water. But it does great for dry food. But I bring a bucket for dry food and simply hide a stainless dollar store salad bol in the food.

I would say that the green bol is great for backpacking for more than one day and it was not expensive at all. Just not that good for water.

I have a couple Torus water dishes, one on the Jeep and one for the RV. These things are awesome. They are leak-proof and stable when moving. The company also stands behind their lifetime warranty. I had one that was a couple years old and developed a small leak. I called them up and had a new one at my door in a couple days. They are a bit pricey, but worth it!

I have used this bowl for years while traveling with my dogs. It's design keeps the water in the bowl very well in all but the roughest roads, but that is to be expected. The dogs usually travel with a liner/blanket underneath so any water spills, primarily from the actual drinking process, isn't an issue.

And it's cheap to boot!! :bop:

No need to keep water available all time. Just give them a drink once in awhile. Have you seen the water bottles that have a bowl attachment on top? Really cool. You just attach the bowl to the top of the water bottle, hold it upright & squeeze, and the bowl fills. Super easy, and super clean.

We have been using the same bowl as AZ Desert Dog for years. Use it when traveling in our Motorhome and I also used it with my service dog. Worked better than the high priced Ray Allen bowls the other guys used. We have three of them with the 1st one almost 10 yrs old and it is still in good shape.
