weatherband CB

Does anybody use their weather band on their cb? I just bought a uniden 250xl and was thinking it had weather band and a pa. It doesn't and now I wonder if I should return it and swap it with one that does. How useful is that feature?

It is nice to know when bad weather is on the way while you're out in the woods, at least, I think so.

The weather feature is great, as long as you're within range of a weather station. It really helps when you're in a place where weather forecasts from tv stations are not available. What I mean is, I was camping in October, and without television, the weather function was invaluable in keeping me updated on the weather in the area. Just be aware that you might not have a weather station close enough to get a signal.

If you have cell service and a smart phone, you can access the weather band through the Weather Underground app.

In the boonies you are more likely to have coverage from weather radio than cell service. Cell reach maybe a mile from the tower, weather radio will go 30 to 50 miles. You can check you coverage here: NOAA Weather Radio - Coverage Maps

JDY - PA and FL are solid throughout the state.

That's a nice site for coverage. Thanks for posting.

I have the same Cobra shown above and the weather radio works very well.

This is what I have used for years in my vehicles. Although here in San Diego where the weather isn't much of an issue its better for the swell forecast.

It is handy though. Saved me a few times in Grand Canyon and other National Parks with coverage.
