Weird Oddity under the hood

i found this weird oddity under the hood/cowl and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is?

one pic is of the drivers side(hole) , and the oddity is on the other pic.

looks like the paint shop forgot to peel off the covering for that hole

It's the aluminum tape to protect the wiring harness. Best to leave it alone.

I've got that too, my guess it's to keep dirt/debris out of the cowl/firewall area.

perhaps those who are getting wet floor matts should check to see if the hole is covered.

I bet if you looked at a Right Hand Drive it would be just the opposite.

It keeps the area behind the firewall dry. You have to remove it if you install a River Raider expedition snorkel, which is how I know.
