Weird thing with the turn signal

This just started today. My left turn signal goes double-time whenever I turn it on - even that little 3 blink thing it would normally do is 6 blinks. The right side is still normal. I have a 2012 with less than 2200 miles on it. Could it be the TIPM thing I read about on other threads? Nothing else (knock wood) seems to be going wonky. The hazard lights are normal, nothin strange with anything else, and it continued even after I had stopped for gas (I was thinking turning the motor off, then on again would reset it somehow).

Naturally, we're headed out of town, so rushing over to the dealer isn't an option today. Any suggestions?

Not sure what you're referring to with the blinking, but typically when the flashing speeds up it means the light burned out. Try putting on the signal and get outside to see if it works. Shouldn't have burned out though so soon.

Usually the faster blink indicate a bulb out on one side, either parking or blink filament in front or both and tail or blink/stop filament in rear. Each bulb is dual purpose with two filaments. Check the side thats blinking fastest and check both its functions.

Faster has classically meant a front bulb is out, solid means a rear. Been the rule since maybe the seventies, but one of those secret ones like the ignition turns to check engine codes

I've always remembered the solid light meaning a bulb is out, not faster blinking. Good to know (aaaand now I feel like a dummy ).

Ok, so I checked and it is the rear light. At less than 2200 miles, should I replace the light or check the fuse first? Neither should be a problem this early, right? Ugh! As if I don't have enough to do today....

The parking light works fine. It's the turn signal that doesn't.

The one function can work without the other when one filament is bad. Swap the bulb and see if the problem migrates, if it does get a new bulb and always replace in pairs

Worst case scenario, your pcim is going bad, they removed the flasher can and now the vehicle pc regulates blinking. It could be a sign of bad things, but well under the 35k when Jeep says now pay up

OK but if I had a Viper I would sell it, pay off my JK (keep it), buy an old Willys & put a blower on it just so people would look and say WTF.

V-10's are cool in concept, so are the V-12's on the old Duesenberg's but I still would not want one unless I were Jay Leno

It could be a sign of bad stuff but it call also be a sign that it was just a crap bulb. Just remember, just cuz it's new doesnt mean it cant brake/ blow. CHange it and forget it unless you start blowing more bulbs.

I agree. You might just have a bulb that wasn't manufactured properly and it went out. Just like with any other individual part that might be defective, that doesn't mean there's another problem. Replace the bulb and see if it happens again like was said.

My 07 does that once in a while. I can't figure it out and I just deal with it when it happens. All my bulbs are good and it only does it occasionally. When it won't turn off I turn on th eright turn signal and then click it off and it usually works.

Mine will occasionaly just skip a beat right around blink number 7 or 8 while I'm sitting in the turn lane waiting for the light to turn green.

Like the track is skipping right. The sound is recorded since there is no flasher can. Would love to hack that to change the tone

Why you say always replace in pairs? I've put a lot of miles on vehicles in the last 40 years and I've changed a few bad bulbs but I've never changed one that was working. I do always try keeping spare bulbs in the garage so I don't have to think about getting one. I always figured saying this might get you out of a ticket: "officer, I have spare bulbs hanging in my garage and I will change that out as soon as I get home." Haven't needed to try that trick yet.

Well, I checked the blinker fluid and yes, it was low .

Actually, when I removed the light cover to change the bulb, I noticed the "old" bulb wasn't seated securely. I snapped it back in place and everything worked as it should. However, it kinda makes me wonder how many other things aren't seated properly...

I noticed a little puddle on the ground the other day...right under the light that went out. I wondered if it had a leak.

Law of averages, if one goes from wear the other was put in at the same time. Never been too lucky with the police so I avoid at all costs
