always, ALways, ALWAYS establish your price before telling them you have a trade! Notice how it's the FIRST thing they ask you. LIE TO THEM or make up a story saying "Nah, I'm gonna sell it on Craigslist" er something like that. Only until you have gotten an offer that you're satisfied with do you then say something like, "Gee it seems like you guys really want my business, so let's talk about you taking my vehicle in on trade"...They will lowball you of course, but keep at it. It's usually not a one-day process. You MUST be willing to walk out the door and wait for them to give in. The best time to start the process is about 3-4 days before the end of the month. Be patient and you'll get your price!

Also, is there not a 30 day waiting period after joining TL before you can use the discount? If you haven't already you should probably join now.

I just got an email from the salesman who offered what I posted in my OP, and he said that ALL dealerships have delivery fees. Can I tell him that it's true, but it's included in the MSRP?

In your shoes I'd tell him that he can include surcharges for delivery on a full moon for all I care, but the price that I'm willing to pay is $20,616 and it's up to him to meet it or not and there is no further negotiation to be done.

Gonna send this:

Hi Cherris,

I'm willing to offer $20,616 OTD. You can ultimately me at that price, or I can always go to someone else.

Thank you for your help.

Yay, nay?

OP, this should probably all be condensed into one thread...(maybe I'll get around to that if I have time.).

Are you confusing delivery fee with destination fee? Basiclally all new vehicles have a desitnation fee (from Toledo Ohio to your dealer)....a delivery fee is something that might be charged if you move a vehicle from dealer to dealer or have it delivered to your door setp. And yes, MSRP always includes destination fee. But quit dealing with MSRP.

I know about the destination fee, but they are charging me a delivery fee. So they basically quoted me MSRP, plus another $900 for a delivery fee.

In that case, you need to find another dealer PRONTO. No need for a destination fee AND a delivery fee if it is already on their lot. I wonder if they traded for it, and a sale fell through....so they are now trying to stick you with the cost?

Before you go any further read these two threads:

(How the Affiliate plan works)
Affiliate Rewards Program Rules

(Check to see if you are already an Affiliate Member)
Affiliate Rewards Elligible Companies

If you are an Affiliate member, you won't have to worry about MSRP.

There is no verb for the adverb ultimately. Personally I wouldn't come across so blunt, but maybe that is best. Others can chime in on that point

Tread lightly will only get you 1% off so $230ish. They might reject it initially but they may call you back and offer you something close to it soon and if it is close I'd take it. You were looking at close to 20% off invoice which is a lot to expect

If you get the invoice price (approx 7-8%) and the trade value you want, it's a good deal. Find out if the Delivery fee is additional to the Destination fee and tell them to shove it.

Best thing to do is to make an offer and if they don't accept you walk out and go to the next dealer.

They may not know what Tread Lightly is, but they do know what the Affiliate rewards program is. With the Affiliate Program, you cannot be charged more than 1% below invoice...but you are FREE to negotiate below that. Most people end up between somewhere between -2% and -4% below invoice...depending on the time of year and dealer.

Either way, I'd be done with this dealer after that silly initial first offer. Just a few hundred dollars off of MSRP and a silly delivery fee.....pffft...

Don't be affraid to walk, remember all these car dealers and salesmen are trying to do is make top dollar. If they can't go to your price simply just say no thanks and good day. im sure they'll contact you back when their desperate and ready to get at least 1 sale.

Remember when you wait til the end of the month these bloodsuckers are more then willing to talk price, but because we're still in the begining of the month they're acting abit more stubborn.

If you will give us the specs on the Wrangler at which you are looking, we can quickly give you the correct MSRP, invoice, Chrysler Affiliates price, and better estimates of the minimum price you might shoot for.

All the rest is just shooting in the dark.

Note that, for Sports + common options, invoice is only about 3.25% off of MSRP. Chrysler "holdback" (credit allowance to dealer on sale) is only 3% of MSRP, so, the dealer has a lot less to work with (about 6.25% of MSRP) than some people seem to think.

With Chrysler Affiliates/Tread Lightly, Chrysler pays the dealer an extra 2% of invoice and guarantees the buyer at least 1% under invoice + $75 fee + state tax, tags, other actual state fees and the dealer DOC fees. DOC fees can only be the same fee that dealer charges on all sales, or the fee allowed by the state. Nothing else is allowed - no extra delivery fees, no prep fees, nothing you don't order. Chrysler will enforce that guarantee for you if the dealer tries to pull a fast one.

From following this thread, you definitely will benefit from joining Tread Lightly ($100) and waiting the 30 days before you take delivery to get the Affiliates deal and protection!

I think you said in another post/thread that you were in Florida.

Shoot Pat a PM. If you are an Affiliate Member (check that list) or have signed up for Tread Lightly, you are already at 2% below invoice is you deal with Pat (Field's has a dealership in FL as well as Illinois).

As UHB stated, list the exact options you want.

Wrablger Sport 'S' with soft top and A/C.

I emailed Pat, and he gave me the contact info of his colleague here in Florida. We're speaking now, so hope all goes well!

Wait, do you want a Sport, or a Sport S?

The Sport S already comes with AC, and I didn't see a power package on your list. Do you want power windows/door locks? If not, I would pass on the S package (you can only add the power package to the S package) and save $1,100 (after you add in AC) unless you really want the Sport S wheels, the mirror with LED lights, the leather steering wheel and shift knob.

If you want the power package?
Power Convenience Group
MSRP - $895 / $14 a month

  • Auto Dimming Mirror with Reading Lamp
  • Power Heated Mirrors
  • Power Door Locks
  • Power Windows with Front One-Touch-Down Feature
  • Remote Keyless Entry
  • Security Alarm

I would also recommend 3.73's if you are getting a manual....even in flat Florida.

I thought the Sport 'S' was the only one that came with A/C, besides the more expensive "trims". I'm confused. I basically just want a soft top with A/C. I don't care too much about power windows and all that stuff, it's a Jeep.

I can't drive stick, so I gotta go auto.

prices

I got my new JK for invoice and minus the holdback and no dealer or paperwork fees. I think it was a good deal, of course they told me they lost money on the deal BUT I know they made plenty.

You can get base Sport and add AC, or a Sport S (which comes with AC).

You should look up the difference between the base Sport, and the Sport S package on the Jeep website and here:

Yeah, got it. Confused them a bit.

Okay, so I wrote back saying just for the Sport with added A/C. That should bring down the price a lot more, ha.

I see that I'm getting charged a Power Convenience Group. Don't need that.

Here's the pricing straight from the 2012 Wangler Information Thread: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/201...ml#post2382191

2013 Base pricing: $ MSRP (INVOICE). INCLUDES $925 destination

Wrangler Sport $23,120 ($22,547)

Wrangler Sport ‘S’ Package $2200 ($1958)

• 17” x 17.5 aluminum wheels (WFF)
• P255/75R17 OWL On/Off tires
• Air conditioning
• Chrome Leather wrapped shift knob
• Leather wrapped steering wheel

Total MSRP listed is : $25,320
Factory Wholesale (invoice) : $24,505
Chrysler Affiliates/Tread Lightly maximum price would then be $24,335 (99% of invoice + $75 Affiliates fee)

The above prices INCLUDE destination fee and dealer prep. They do not include state taxes, transfer, and allowed dealer DOC fee (which is very high in Florida)

DO NOT let a dealer charge you any extra delivery, prep, or add-on of any kind, unless it's something you want to add to the Jeep!

I may be wrong, but I don't think you can add air to a 2013 Sport except by adding the "S" package. I think you can for a 2014 order???

"S" pkg is double that, so, if you don't want the better wheels and larger tires, just get AC.

But, for the 2013 model year, no more orders can be placed, and dealers have what dealers have, so you may have to compromise.

That's why I, and many here, prefer to order from the factory instead of buying from dealer stock - why pay for something you don't want, or buy a Jeep that doesn't have something you do want?

Yeah, it is showing as a $995 option (Removal of Air Conditioning Bypass) on the Jeep website.

It is confusing, because it isn't so much an option as it is selecting the removal of a bypass. Or both I guess.... Odd....

Customer Preferred Package 23B requires the selection of one of the following options:

DescriptionMSRP*
Air Conditioning Bypass $0
Air Conditioning $995

But yeah...the base Sport plus AC may make more sense. However, the 2014 Sport S wheels are going to be mineral gray instead of sparkle silver. That might be kinda cool. Not sure if you want to spend another $1000 for it...but the option is there.

You should be able to order a 2014 Sport with air as the only option for about 23,550 Affiliates price + tax, tags, and DOC fees.

But you would have to wait until about mid August to get it......
