What a start to the Thanksgiving weekend...

Well.... It started out good. Got the cargo carrier loaded with all my turkey fryer junk and hit the road. Just a little 2 1/2 hour drive to the in-laws. 5 minutes later, here's what's left. Got rear-ended by a young lady when I hit the brakes to avoid a red light runner. No harm, no foul. Nobody ticketed, nobody hurt. Now I have an excuse to buy that XHD rear bumper.

Luckily, my friend was home and could bring me my trailer...

Ouch, what a crazy event, got in one accident by avoiding another. Good attitude, kinda funny your carrying your cargo rack on a trailer. Worst holliday for driving, I've seen a lot of crazy stuff today.

How did receiver hitch fare ? I have exact same cargo rack from harbor freight and I basically leave mine on all the time. always wondered how it would take an impact ...glad to hear everyones ok.. Also glad to see body didn't get damaged.
Is it just me or does that propane bottle sitting under all the wreckage look weird lol..

That is the exact same thing I would have thought as long as no one was hurt of course is it gives me an excuse to buy a new bumper

not funny, but funny... only a bunch of jeepers could make light of this type of situation... like the OP said, now he justified the offroad bumper...

Actually, the turkey is waiting for me in JAX. Just have to pull out the spare fryer and load my crap on the trailer. Should have just hauled the trailer. She would have been 14 ft behind me when she hit.

We were only moving about 5MPH at impact.

The propane tank was still attached to what was left of the carrier. 2 Bungees and a ratchet strap. We were just glad it didn't go up in flames, but they are built pretty stout. Have to pound out a dent in the turkey pot, and swap burners on the stand. Lost my favorite one and have to resort to using the spare.

I'm a lot closer than that, but the poor kid that hit me is only 19.

The guy that caused it looked to be older than me. Unfortunately, didn't get his tag number.

Nah... Then I wouldn't be able to open the rear door/hatch. I'm looking at XHDs front and rear. I think I just got the rear one paid for.

On a side note... Does anybody know if an XHD will work with the factory receiver? Or do I have to swap that out also?

I was recent;y rear ended as well. My first thoughts were an aftermarket bumper. Then I thought about how well the stock bumper protected the rear. All the damage was absorbed by the bumper and never got to the body. Ultimately I choose to stay with the stock bumper for that added protection.

There are bad drivers everywhere. We just import more for the winter.

I had a guy try and take me out this afternoon. I'm in Cleveland Ohio. So the bad driver isn't just contained in Florida. Not sure what he was doing? Just started to make lane change into my side. Locked up my tires and he swerved back into his lane. All continued on to grandmas house.

Glad you are ok. The person that hit you is still responsible for your damages. She should have been ticketed for following to close. File a claim with her insurance carrier pronto.

I saw quite a few when I was doing my initial research. Saw a nice one at Northern tool and tractor supply. The one from NT, you put together. The one from TSC comes as one piece, all welded.

twice the cost of the Harbor fake one.
