What axle do I have?

I'm pretty sure I have a Dana 44 rear axle but just wanted to make sure. Looking to Regear to 4.88 around Christmas time so going to start my research now. Here's a picture. Thanks!

Almost all JKs have a D44 rear axle. A handful of early 2007s came with D35s I believe. Best thing to do to confirm is to register on jeep's website and download a copy of your build sheet.

For a 2wd jeep, I'd expect you only have to regear the rear axle, which should cut the cost in half.

Yes its a 2wd. So MTH your saying I have the D44 axle? Also I was look at quadratec for 4.88 gears and I saw they were having a sale on Superior Ring & Pinion & Master overhaul kit. This comes with the 4.88 gears and a complete overhaul kit. Do I have to get this or do I need just the gears? Also how reliable are the superior gears? I was looking at the yukon gears and Cajun Off Road in Lafayette and they arent that much more expensive I don't think. Here's a link to the Superior kit.

I'd expect you'll also need a master overhaul kit.

Personally though, I'd use your online research and prices to keep the shop "honest," but ultimately have the shop supply the particular gears you'll need. Otherwise, they can blame your pick of gears for any problems that develop.

Don't you have a 6 speed? 4.88s are going to be pretty low unless you're getting 35s.

Yea that's what I was thinking. I'll get a quote for the Yukon gears if the shop ever answers their phone!

Yes I have the 6 speed. I'm stuck between 4.56 or 4.88. About to install those 33" cooper ATPs and it's my DD but will upgrade to 15" rims and 35" tires after those run thin

If I was going to regear, I'd pick 4.56. Reasonable (though still a touch deep) for 33s, yet good for 35s. I do a lot of highway miles, so I need to be able to do 70+ mph comfortably for extended periods.
