What axles do I have?

I just recently purchased a 2007 JKU Sahara and was wondering if anyone could tell me how to tell what axles I have? Do the Saharas come with only 1 type of Dana axle in the front or back or does it vary? Would appreciate any info someone could give or a link to any posts that talk to this subject, thanks!

Cheers

Yeah Jeep was being dumb and decided to sneak a few TurD35's in the early production 2007 JK's. Not very common but there out there

I believe it's 3.21 and $50 to upgrade to the 3.73's.

2007 was the first year and they went crazy with the axles. Some early models had the D35 but also there was an option to upgrade to D44 in 2007. The only year that was true. Would love for the D44 Upgrade now. So in the non rubis you could have D30/D35/or D44 so its a hard call.

As far as the gears someone asked about, if you have a Automatic it was 3.73. No 3.21 available for Auto until 2012. The Manual on the other hand came standard with 3.21 with a option of 3.73. So if you have an Auto you have 3.73, if you have a manual you could have either 3.21 or 3.73. You would want to go to Jeep.com and register and get your build sheet to know for sure

Yes. Looks like the gasket/seal is leaking. You'll run out of gear oil eventually. You can fix it yourself of you'd like, but you'll want to take it in if you don't want to get your hands dirty.

BUT, it's not a hard fix. Just don't leave a 1/2 empty container of gear oil in the back and forget about it like I did. Took forever to get the smell out.

Piece of cake repair. Once the cover is removed clean the surface free of old gasket and or sealant. Then apply generous bead of new sealant no gasket. Let it skin over for a while, preferably over night if ya can. Then put cover on and torque to spec and refill 80w90 or equivilant. Simple fix.

Depends on the terms of the warranty, but I would expect so.

Update: apparently this is NOT covered under the warranty that I have. The service person stated that the extended warranty I have covers 'leakage" and not "seepage". Bull crap, semantics if you ask me. Sure its not currently leaking but it looks like it released differential fluid at some point in the not so distant past. Anyone else had this kind of experience before?

He's just BSing you. Is it a Chrysler warranty?

You should actually read it BTW. See if it defines "leakage" versus "seepage", and see if "seepage" is actually excluded. Plus see of there's other grounds under which you should be covered.

Truthfully though, as noted above this is an easy fix. Here's everything you need to know: (http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-write-...r-installation), though you'll obviously just be using you stock diff covers. A trip to autozone and an early afternoon and you'll be done.

This is why extended warranties, generally, suck.

Do you have anything to substantiate the rear D35 claim? I have heard this for years, but no one has come forward with a single JK that has a D35 rear. It just doesn't make sense because a TJ axle wouldn't fit.

That 07 D44 option was for the front only.

I was on "the other forum" awhile back in a gearing discussion when a user chimed in claiming they had a 2007 with a Dana 35 rear. I looked for the thread this morning but unfortunately couldn't find it. My recollection is that by post count, mods in the sig block, and discussion, he seemed reasonably knowledgeable, and he was very confident he did indeed have a D35 rear. Not proof I know, but it is at least a first hand account.

Thank you. They confirmed it in part 2 of the 3 part "Penny Pincher" series about rebuilding a salvage 07 Jeep. It's the January '12 issue.
