What can a dealer remove from Jeep on the lot without cost?

I'm basically plugging in zip codes, and doing 200 mile searches for Sahara Tan JKU Saraha's with most of the options I'm looking for.
I've found some with "more" options than I want (mostly the Nav system and maybe the painted HT).

Can Nav, or painted HT or "upgraded" wheels be removed without cost?
I don't want Nav ($1800), and I really don't like paying $900 for a painted top....so if that that stuff can be swapped for base stuff....that will really open up some options....but I don't know how that works.

I do know that LSD, Connect, Saddle leather, and an auto are a factory must. And I would really prefer to have a tow package (for the possible springs), and remote start already installed (don't have to pay for dealer labor that way). I'm pretty open on climate control (heard their were issues) and the axle gearing...(I'm still not decided on 3.21 or 3.73).

Once you buy the vehicle the dealership will do anything you want to it. But they are not going to "part out" the vehicle before you buy it to lower the cost. They don't have to do that in order to sell them due to the high demand. I'd say order exactly what you want...that way you will be 100% happy with the options.

That is what I figured.....but I thought I would ask.

Since Sahara Tan is no longer available....it looks like I'm waiting on Winter Chill, Crush and Black Forest.

Thanks....

Go in and haggle with them, if it's something you'd buy if it didn't have the "extras", tell them. When my Mom got her trailblazer, it had a few things that she didn't need or want, And we told them give us this one at the price of the one we wanted or well go somewhere else and find someone that wants our money and business. After walking out the door and half way to the car, She got the fully loaded one at a discounted price.
Sometimes it cheaper to discount what they have than go thru the work of finding exactly what you want, having it shipped to them, etc, etc.

it doesn't hurt to ask, most they can say is no. Then like mentioned above say thanks and walk out and try another place. If you come back later, you can always order another.

Another option is to look to trade/sell the unwanted top to someone who may want it. The colored tops were not an option prior to '11 but they do fit earlier years. For the record, the colored top was one of the features that sold us and does set us apart from anyone in the area. I have seen 4 Detonator JKU over the summer, only one in Sahara and none with the colored top.

Despite my Sahara having features I wasn't really after, I got such a great deal on it (private party) I couldn't pass it up....and most of those features I've come to appreciate....although I don't care for the body-colored fenders. The hard top is 'khaki' and is a very nice balance to the 'natural pearl green' or whatever....sort of a buffed-out almost military looking rig that pretty much blends into its home rural environment.

And the 3.73/LSD were a deciding point whether to put up with the rest of the package. Great choice for my use. Good luck.

Well, after I don't know how many beers....I've finished searching untold dealer websites. Using 200 miles zip code searches around New York, Philly, West Virginia, Miami, Houston, Dallas, St Louis, Kansas City, Des Moines, Chicago, Minny, Denver, LA, and Seattle....I've come up with w window stickers that fit about 90% of what I'm looking for in a Sahara Tan Sahara. (Got rid of everything that had the 730 nav).

All 4 have leather, connectivity, 5 speed auto's, LSD, climate control, trailer tow, and some sort of hard top. The problem is that some have the 430, or some have painted HT's, and the one that does not have either, does not have remote start (which is what I may lean towards). Some have side airbags.....but I could go either way on those. The other issue is that I really LIKE the painted tops on the Sahara Tan Wranglers....but I don't like the rip-off price tag. I was hoping to see Winter Chill, and paint the standard black HT myself for a lot cheaper than the +$900 mark-up Chrysler is charging.

I'll have to drink another beer and sleep on it. Not a single one of the Jeeps are anywhere near me....so we are talking about a serious dealer trade.
Basically, here are my choices.
#1 Black HT, no Nav (which is how I want it), but does not have remote start (which I do want).

#2 Colored HT (Ugg....$$$), no nav, has remote start. (Also has side air bags, smokers group and engine block heater)

#3 Black HT, 430 nav (don't really want), remote start. I'm also considering this one.

#4 Colorted HT, no nav, has remote start. Basically the same as #2 minus the side air bags, smoker group (which I don't want) and engine block heater (which I don't mind).

Do I overpay for the 430 Nav?
Do I overpay for the colored HT?
Do I skip them both and have the dealer install remote start (at what cost?)
Do I wait for Winter Chill, Crush, and Black Forest so that I can get (and pay for) exactly what I want.
All 4 have 3.21 gearing...which I'm still unsure about.

Thoughts on this?
Thanx

If I had to overpay for something, it would be the colored HT. At least this way, you get some kind of warranty on the paint. If you do it yourself and it doesn't work out well, you'll be stuck trying to repair it. But, I don't know what your approach to painting it will be, so I'm speculating here. But, paint is a touchy area.

Interestingly enough, the GF's brother works at an auto body repair shop...and he is a painter.
He said he just happened to be working on a wrecked hardtop...and that Jeep uses a special kind of paint that is flexible for the fiberglass tops. He stated that the paint was pretty expensive (and when it cracks, it looks like plaster) and that it would not be all that much of a savings to have a black one painted.

So yeah, you are correct...might as well get it painted from the factory for the warranty.

If you weren't looking for an Unlimited I think there's a two door here that is what you are looking for.

That is too bad...I'm 100% set on a 4 door.

After reading the thread on the soft top (law suits, recalls, pin holes, ect), I think I may have to give up on Sahara Tan and order new...that way "everything" is covered under warranty. I was planning snatching a soft top off of Craig's list or going with one of the after market products. But it looks like I may be better off getting it all from the factory.

Damn...dual tops with a factory painted HT just raised the price tag quite a bit. At this point, that is nearly every option in the book with the exception of nav and side airbags. (If I order new, I might as well get the block heater.)

I better detail the Libby really well to boost that trade in value.

I just pulled up the window sticker, it has a bunch of stuff on it that I didn't remember being on it when I looked at it. It's not as close to what you are wanting as I thought.

As far as it being a 4 door, I have a sawzall.

There is a '12 Sahara in tan near me that has exactly what I want except for it has those ridiculous chrome 18" 7 spoke wheels. I asked him if I could trade for the Mojave wheels but he is not responding to my query about that. Why would anyone want polished aluminum wheels on an offroad wrangler?? I would buy that vehicle if he would swap for the Mojave wheels. I take it by his silence that he is not interested in that deal...

There were two on my list that I had marked off (I think they both have 1730 nav systems) that had those chrome wheels. Those have to be the ugliest things on earth. They would look better if they were the standard Sahara rims in chrome...but the 7 spokes look awful IMO.

Just do the wheels aftermarket.

The Mojave wheels (which were originally the Mountain edition wheels . . . and then the COD edition wheels . . . and are now the Mojave edition wheels) are popping up all the time on Craigslist and eBay. In fact, all the Mojave/Mountain/COD wheels are are standard Rubi/upgraded Sport wheels that have been sanded and painted with Mineral Grey wheel paint, and the Rubi/upgraded Sport wheels are ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Simple solution.
