Finalizing a Willys Wheeler W build to put in 1st quarter of 2017, but can't get over the tires. I'd much rather have the KO2s opposed to the standard MT tires that come on it (same tires as rubicon).
What is fair to bargain for from the dealer or tire shop (discount tire) as far as having them swap on KO2s pre-delivery or < 50 miles? In other words, how much can you expect to get from the new MT tires and how much can you expect to pay for the KO2s?
I typically agree about buying tires after-the-fact from the dealer, but I was curious if anyone had any luck negotiating them as part of the initial vehicle sale. Somewhere along the lines of I'll pay an extra $200-400 + take the brand new MTs before vehicle pick up to have KO2s on instead. Seems like a dealer might bite considering it would be a guaranteed $40k special vehicle order sale at the cost of MAYBE a couple hundred dollars lost in the tire swap.
Friend of mine bought a new Sport a couple years ago, got a real good trade for stock wheels and tires to new wheels and tires from Discount Tire. May be store specific, don't know, but we were both surprised.
Not for a Jeep, but had the dealer put Michelin M/S on an Expedition at no extra cost. I'm sure the dealer isn't going to wiggle as much on a Jeep, but they will do it for minimal cost if it means a sale. It wouldn't hurt to toss the idea to the dealer and see what they say.
You'll get more money selling the factory KM's in Craiglist or Ebay, and a better deal perhaps buying the K02's yourself through DT in Ebay or maybe even at a local DT store.
I have sold the ones I had in the past, on two Rubicons, for around $400-$500 for all 5, after a couple thousand miles on them. Sold easily within a couple of days on Craigs List.
Good to know all. I'll check with my local Discount Tire to see what kind of arrangement they entertain and try to haggle with dealer once I plan to order. The hope is that it will go along the lines of:
Me: have a quote for 7% under invoice (koon's, although with their doc fee, it's more like 5%)
Dealer: 3 or 4% is best we can do
Me: 3/4% + swap in KO2s and it's a deal
Sell them on your own, I just sold my set of Rubicon takeoffs for $1200 last week.
