Looking to do a CB setup in my JKU, not sure where a great place to mount the cb would be. Been looking at the rugged ridge over the review mirror mount. Any one have this mount or and comments? Thanks
I'm not sure about that particular mount, but I hate radios mounted there. Specifically, I hate dealing with microphone cords of radios mounted there. I'm in the process of moving mine to inside the center console.
I bought this. Mounted the box behind the glove box. Pigtail drops just below the dash for easy installation of the mic. But when I am not wheeling it isn't in my Jeep.
This is a great way to do it. All it is is the wiring harness it can unplug and go in console or glove comp. if your not looking for a serious full time CB I have one use it in which ever rig needs it. It's built all in one speaker radio
I mounted mine to a cup so it fits in the cup holder. I didn't want a permanent mount. When not in use it goes in the center console. I mounted the antenna to third brake light. Ran 18' of coax through the rubber grommet in the tailgate and under the carpet.
What CB mount is best? The one that works for you. Asking such a basic question will get you three hundred opinions, not an answer. Personally, I like the homemade over the mirror location. Out of the way and conveniently located.
I plan to use just a simple cheap Cobra 19 DX.
Im stuck between the center console mount or an over the mirror mount. I like the looks of the over the mirror i just hate not seeing it in person first. My question for those who have the over the mirror mount would be, does it get in the way of removing the hard top, does it restrict ur view of rearview mirror? And also does it obnoxiously bounce around?
Using a rugged ridge mount mine was bouncing around to the point that I was afraid it would damage the radio. I took it back down and am looking for a better location now. As for the interference with rear view mirror there were no issues. Also no problem with freedom top removal.
I did the same with a Unidan and just put it between the passenger seat and the console. For my antenna I drilled 4 holes through the license plate holder on the back side and mounted there.
Mounted the radio today with the Rugged Ridge mount. As mentioned, will probably remove the mic when not using the radio so no cords are hanging around. Also had to mount the mic on the right side because the driver side visor got in the way.
I use the Rugged Ridge over the mirror mount. It doesn't bounce or vibrate at all, and the radio and mic is completely out of the way. It does not obstruct my view. This is my third Jeep. In the first two, I mounted my CB on the passenger side under the glove box and had the mic mounted beside the radio. I prefer this setup to either of the previous Jeeps I owned.
I use the Cobra 75WXST similarly to how others have posted, but I use an s-biner with one gate clipped off and a small D ring to hang the handset from the passenger visor.
I purchased the Rugged Ridge over the mirror mount to test it out. Well it does not work for larger CB units like the Cobra 29LX and with the larger mirror like the stock one I have with the map lights, it's a no go. Can't use the rear view at all even if I drilled new holes forward the bracket. I added a front roll cage and will use aluminum tube brackets for an even cleaner better fit.
I made my mount for above the mirror, cost all of 5 bucks to make and no drilling/mods done to the jeep. Hardly notice the cord from the radio hanging and its always there when I need it
