What changes do you hope to see in the 2016 redesign?

I've wanted a Wrangler for a few years now, but just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. I've had a few concerns, most notably, the problem with leaks, especially from the freedom tops. I'm sure many, if not all of my concerns will be taken care of with the 2016 model.

That said, what changes do you want to see with the 2016 redesign? Here are mine....

1. Redesigned roof that eliminates leaks
2. Diesel engine
3. More headroom
4. Doors that hold open in a set position
5. More durable hard top that isn't prone to scratching
6. No carpet option

I love the look of the current Wrangler so I hope they don't do anything to drastic with the look.

* Adjustable seats (Move up and down - it's tough for us short, heavier guys!)
* Better sunvisors - sheesh, at least let them slide or something.
* Rear seat headrest fix - lord, the rear window is useless for visibility between the headrests and the wiper box
* Better fix for the wiper box on the rear windshield - smaller or something.
* There are some blind spots that need redesigned, I feel. Pretty hard to see behind me with the headrests, wiper box, rollbar, etc all blocking the view
* Mirrors on the BODY, not the doors. Just dropped 80 bucks for a pair of mirrors so I can go doorless...
* Leaky roof - not an issue for me YET, but I havent been out in the rain with the top off yet.
* Vents in the hood. So many people want to replace their hoods or modify them, may as well just do it at the factory, or make it an option.
* Rims and tires as options on the base model. They might be, but I wasn't given the option on mine.
* About 5K less than what mine cost would have been perfect!
* Change nothing. I love mine just the way it is!

I'm sure you thought this list through carefully, so just take this as friendly ribbing. :D You've got legit points and even if you didn't, you are entitled to your opinion anyway.

* My seats adjust up and down.
* My visor slides out (better than the old Dakota or the wife's Impreza, but still doesn't really catch all possible places were the sun comes in and hits the eyes)
* Next 3 are all really the same so it must be a priority for you (not that you are wrong about them impinging on visibility mind you)
* Mirrors - agree!
* Leaky - if the top is off and it rains... how would a redesign of the top keep you dry?
* My favorite... "Change nothing"... but, but... you just listed a bunch of changes!

“We do need to intervene on the Wrangler and on the minivan architecture,” Mr. Marchionne said. “For a variety of reasons these are things that will not survive in the mid to long-term, simply because of the implications on CAFE standards. So we need to roll up our sleeves and get it done.”

Well, that sucks.

Not sure if it is, but build it here in the US exclusively. That would be a good change.

I'm sure Chrysler is focused on making the Wrangler lighter. That's obvious, but can they do it without : Making it too expensive, remember, it usually brings the price up ,to bring the weight down. They certainly can't go to carbon type materials and keep the price under 50. My second point is, they need to make the engine more efficient, that is going to be a challenge for them also.

A small point for me, but important is: Make the steering more precise. That shouldn't be that hard. What's taking so long? Get it done already.

“We know fully well what we need to do,” he said. “That car needs to be light-weighted. I think we need to allow for the application of additional engines into the vehicle.”

I'm going to guess a 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, and a diesel each paired with a 9 speed.

If it hasn't already been mentioned, one thing I'm surprised they don't already have is a radio that adjusts the volume automatically according to speed. I've always thought it was dumb in other vehicles but driving the Jeep with the top and doors off makes me pine for it.

Better gas mileage, a good dark green or blue color and room for my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Great Dane and St. Bernard cause my current JK ain't gonna hold them puppies long! I see a 016 JKU in my future, I've gone Jeep, I can't go back!!!

My 2013 has raises the volume at high speed....when the top is off (and I don't jump the breaker). I have the HU from a 2010, but I also have Premium Sound (amp).

So it must be a sensor in the '13 rather than anything to do with an updated head unit. I also have the premium sound, but Infinity rather than Alpine. I wonder if that's where the difference is, or if it has something to do with the upgraded EVIC on the '13s.

I have had my '13 Rubicon for about a year now and have a few ideas for improvements. Some are copied from other posts on this thread. FYI - i am not a a hardcore off-roader like most on this forum, but i do some relatively minor mods from time to time. A lot of the recommendations on this thread are a bit far fetched since such a small percentage of buyers modify anything or use vehicle off-road ever. Jeep will make changes based upon what will sell most units and hard-core guys like most of you will have to adapt.

In no particular order:

1) better lockable storage options like glove box and center console should lock with power lock buttons so you dont have to stop vehicle to unlock with key. More secure locks would be great as well.

2) less roof leaks. A complete overhaul of the soft top would be great. It is much better than it has ever been, but is still a very awkward process to raise and lower the top. Changing from soft to hard top and back is even worse.

3) mirror relocation from doors to body. This is ridiculous that you need to buy aftermarket mounts to make vehicle legal with doors off. This would also allow you to keep year round the power mirror options that you paid for.

4) improvements to rear soft window. Rolling it up ruins it. It pretty much has to be removed, and stored somewhere, when you lower the top. A better way to access rear cargo area with the window in place would be great also.

5) I really like the modular hard top idea someone had earlier.

6) Even the highest end 730n radio option currently available is terrible compared to other options available on the market. The bluetooth drops too often, the touch screen calibration is always off, and navigation between modes is cumbersome. It wouldnt need a redesign, just a better choice of sub-vendor.

7) Eliminate the torx bolts in favor of thumb screws for the more common removable items.

8) The headlights are terrible to the point of bordering on unsafe. First mod for every owner is to replace bulbs.

9) I like the pickup truck-style tailgate idea but im not sure how it would work with the spare tire unless a much more expensive tire carrier was added. I dont see Jeep going that route.

10) I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see simple canvas doors for use with the soft top. The CJ years ago had them and it was my favorite thing. The $1,000 aftermarket option is just not reasonable.

11) Keyless start that is already available on other Chrysler vehicles.

12) speed sensitive radio volume sounds very cheesy but until you have had a vehicle with it, you just dont realize what a great option it is. Again, already available on other Chrysler vehicles.

13) the visible pinch welds are just poor craftsmanship. Better attention to details needs to be addressed in future designs.

14) for any Jeeper that has been caught in a rain shower, or even just people that have spilled a cup of coffee, why design areas that will pool water? Recesses on the dash and center console that dont drain water are just plain dumb. Weep the recesses to the floor or out of the vehicle for gods sake.

15) Lastly, for the hard-core modifier some thought needs to be given to making aftermarket modifications easier. Maybe simpler wire routing through firewall. Maybe a fuse sub-block inside the cabin.

Just a few observations from a mall crawler.

When VW was in the slumps they came out with the retro looking "New Beetle". I think Chrysler would really benefit following the same model.

Produce a "retro" Jeep. The Wrangler has moved away from the iconic look of the CJ5/7 that I fell in love with in the 70's

Create a "New CJ". Back to the dimensions of the original, it could be lighter than our current SUV sized vehicles. Build it out of aluminum or plastic but capture the "Look" of the CJ. Put a direct injection 4 cylinder or diesel engine in it to help meet CAFE. Make it so the top can stay off in a deluge and the electrics keep working...

Ah... I can only wish.

I thought Fiat was doing this with the Mini-Jeep based on the Fiat 500.:jawdrop:

Adjustable driver's seat height (able to lower it more)
Rear seat with one or two recline position (current is too upright)
Adjustable air suspension like in the Grand Cherokee so vehicle rides lower when on road and can take corners faster
Hemi V8 option
The new 8 speed auto that's also in the GC already
And that'd make my perfect Rubicon...

With the Unlimited outselling the 2-door by almost a 3:1 ratio....I wonder if the new 2017 Wrangler will do away with a 2-door option? I mean, automakers are just dying to find ways to save costs these days.

Hmmm..........
