Some classless people out there. Sorry that happened to you. Hope they get some sort of evidence.

OK, I'm new to posting, but have read all 689 pages here. My big question is PlastiDip. I know what it is, but why?

Because it isn't permanent? Seems like a lot of work.

How durable is it? Can you hit it with a pressure washer? Can you scrub the bugs off of it? Can water get trapped under it and cause corrosion?

This!

So happy to have them on, but from a non-jeep perspective, it was kind of a pain in the ass to install. From a jeep perspective, not that big a deal.

I went an bought an 18mm socket, and 3" extension.
I used my torque wrench, 1/2", since it's nice and long.

To get the bolts out from under the jeep, I ended up having to use a pair of vice grips to get them pulled out after they were completely unscrewed but hanging up and not coming out. You have to tug real well, but not so hard that you might bust yourself in the mouth if the pliers slipped.

For the grinding, I went out an bought a full bench grinder. Lesson learned on grinding: give it a good grind on the first go instead of going back and forth to see if you got a fit.

For the installation, my assistant was my wife and she was not too happy holding those heavy rails. So I used a cheat that was posted here on the forum: I taped up and then flipped one of the boxes on its side and placed the rail on that. From underneath, I then used my leg to brace the rail up as I tightened it back up -- and fought with getting the bolt to bite. Took a bit to get each blot to grab and start screwing in.

Torqued to 80.

I then wanted to put on some 3M non-slip tape, but used an off brand instead (since my local hardware store has such a crappy selection, haha).

The outcome: I love it. But not without some pain in the ass factoring.

Bob

Because it kicks in when exiting or entering a highway via clover leafs, it makes for a very dangerous commute. I literally have to take clover leafs at around 15mph (rated for 35mph). I confirmed a centered steering wheel and had it aligned. Using the ESP Off button had no effect on the problem.
I think I have this problem. When I take an on ramp sometimes in feels like the traction control kicks in and when I try to accelerate it feels like its stalling out. Does this sound like how yours reacted?

JK Altitude After Lift

Running a little behind but the lift and tires went on this week.

Rubicon Express Standard 3.5" with 295-70R18 Nitto Terra Grapplers.

Went out on the trails for just a little today. Looking forward to something a little more challenging now.

Q: Why Plasti-Dip?
A: As you said, it's not permanent. I didn't scuff up the wheels before applying so it should be trivial to remove since the surface remained smooth.

Q: How durable is it?
A: Not 100% sure yet, but from others who have posted, it should be able to handle a car wash and power washing without a problem. I probably won't be using a stiff brush to wash - but since this is new for me, only time will tell how it holds up.

Q: Was it a lot of work?
A: Yeah, a bit. But I had a beer in hand and the radio going so it was rather enjoyable. Some have sprayed their wheels while leaving them on the car. I *might* try that in the future, if necessary. At the moment, spending ~$250/wheel for black alloy rims plus another ~$250 per tire, I just don't have that kind of cash to see how black wheels would look. (And I'd probably want larger wheels too, which would mean I should then get a lift, and then maybe a re-gear, and you can't forget about reprogramming the speedo, and oh-yeah maybe a new tire carrier since the stock one won't fit the new wheel, etc, etc. ) While the five cans of plasti-dip set me back just under $30.

Based upon this thread, it would seem several of us should start our "second business" modifying jeeps around the country. Clearly there is a client base. I know I'd be in line to give you money
